That would have been an interesting signing.

For sure the sacking of Robson and appointment of Souness was a grave error. The reasoning? Apparantly Shepherd decided that Robson had lost the dressing room, no longer had any control over the playboy players, and a disciplanarian was required to sort it out. I just wish that disciplinarian had also been a good football manager. The Robson sacking was a nonsense to the vast majority of Newcastle fans. We started slow every season under him, but would have picked up. However regardless of the sacking, I still think the club was well positioned if they made the correct appointment for his replacement.

Even if Robson had lost the dressing room, they were still playing for him, and playing well. All Souness did was came in and turfed out anybody that wasn't willing to do it his way (i.e. our top young players).

Souness was hardly a disciplanarian was he? Lets think, Bellamy, Dyer, Bowyer, Bernard....he pissed them all off.

I still remember being very upset seeing those pictures of Robson getting in the car after he had been sacked with his golf putter.

I hate Shephard, I hate Ashley and Llambias which is why I was annoyed when I heard people only verbally abused Llambias on Friday night. The **** deserves a smack or fifteen.

This. I can still picture Sir Bobby's face as he walked past the TV cameras with that putter, a kind of sad smile on his face.

Mort was nothing more than a puppet either although I do agree he was a lot more likeable than Llambias. I think we need a football man in that role, we all know we ain't going to get that under Fat Mike though

Llambias is so far up Ashleys arse it aint true. Mort however was different, he came across as trustworthy, and seemed to have a genuine interest in the club doing well.

If you want to pick a mometn on the pitch, it has to be the loss to Partizan Belgrade.

If you want to pick a decision off the pitch, it was sacking SBR mid season. I will go out on a limb here and say that I though SBR was losing the plot and should be replaced. If it had happened in the summer, he could have been given a hero's farewell and/or appointedclub ambassador. We would have had a pick of top managers as replacements.

Mid-season it was a horrible thing to see, and we ended up with barrel scrapings.

And yes, Bowyer's signing had to be part of it as well

Mort was a professional. Literally - - he was a solicitor paid by the hour. This meant that he was never, by definition, going to act in opposition to his isntructions. It also meant, however, that he was determned to do his job to high standards, efficiently and ethically.

Llambias is just a yes man

This also. It was 2001/02, we went into the last 12 games knowing if we won them all then the title was guarenteed. We won the first couple and then Bellamy got injured. We then played Liverpool once and Arsenal three times (league, cup, cup replay) in a short space of time with Carl Cort upfront and that was the end of our title push.

been a string of events which have destroyed what we used to be! obviously the partizan belgrade result, sacking of robson, souness, sporting lisbon in the quaters of the uefa, forgot weather it was herenveen or alkmar that knocked us out the next (but that), owen coming, mike ashley, expensive flops, mike ashley wanting to sell us, then not! theres more stuff but av just finished work n thats all a can think of from the top of me head! but yeah ad say robson was the main reason, when shepard sacked him after the villa match we never played with the same passion again and seemed to deteriate season by season, winning 6 out of 38 in the 08/09 season was embarrasing and we deserved to get relegated!
