Kelvin was awful to be honest. Pretty pointless to play a possession game and keep passing it to a keeper who has a 50/50 chance of kicking the ball straight out of play. That really didn't help us.

Unlucky lads, besides the Cups you are having a cracking season. Really hope you finish above Man Ure.
I respect Southampton as a club. Cracking youth system and a good style of Football.

Youve come a long way in a very short time, you shouldnt be disheartened after today!

Whilst I am in no doubt that the team selection is the reason for such a limp performance for us (except for the last 15-ish mins), I don't actually blame Pochettino.

He has made it clear that he doesn't want us in the Europa League next season (and neither do I!). But winning the FA Cup would make us do just that - and to be honest, even being runners-up probably would do too. You can't have both, you can't aim to win the FA Cup whilst avoiding the Europa League at the same time. So targeting the FA Cup by putting out a full strength side would have contradicted his want to avoid the Europa League.

I'm content with Poch's decision today. And any disappointment that I might feel at the moment (there is some, but it's very minimal) will disappear entirely should Sunderland get drawn, for example, away to City tomorrow.

And who knows, maybe today might work in our favour come the summer. Every game that we fail to win or perform in with the likes of Kelvin, Hooiveld and Guly in the team is hopefully a step closer to additional transfer funds being made available.

It's a bit odd to rate a keeper's performance on his kicking, but yes, that part of his game was a bit ****e. At least he didn't get beaten at his near post today.

I want us in the Europa Cup. because that means we might have actually ****ing won something!

I am sick to ****ing death of being the runner up, of reaching the quarter finals, of mediocrity.

Thanks, poyet has turned things around and you are now a tough team to beat. Lots of saints fans dislike poyet, party due to his comments in L1, but he has been quite respectful of late. I think you will stay up and hope you turn city over.

That's the key word for me. If, upon reaching the FA Cup final, it would have been a certainty that we'd win it, then even I would have accepted playing in the Europa League in exchange. Winning the FA Cup outweighs having to play in the Europa League next season, for me.

But the risk is that we lose the FA Cup final, but still end up qualifying for the Europa League. The worst consolation prize going. At some point we would almost certainly have had to run into a big team. Even in 2003, we didn't manage to avoid the big boys forever (post Spurs). Had it not come before the final, it would have come in the final. It's not like we were the best side left in the competition.

I want to win the FA Cup, but I'm hardly suicidal that we've lost. We can go again next season, when hopefully we'll be even stronger yet again. If our season finished now, I would call it an absolute success.

Yeah, we might reach the quarters and finish 7th next season. That would truly be a blockbuster unforgettable best season ever. almost as good as 2 years ago when we fumbled the Championship title into the gutter from a dominant position.

Well no, obviously the best season ever was when we won the JPT and finished 7th in League One. Because, you know, we won something.

No, but the excitement and enthusiasm that final produced after a long decline may have given us some extra impetus the season after. A strong cup run may have made us feel that we could go on and propel ourselves to better things next year.

I don't think Hooiveld played too badly today, nor Kelvin aside from his kicking - I don't know why he had been briefed to constantly play it out to Shaw. To be honest I thought it was in the midfield where we lost it today. No control.

I don`t think Hooiveld had a bad game either - nor any of the defenders, come to think of it.

If we're not taking the cup seriously this season. Right here, today, when we have no good excuse not to, then we won't under this management/ownership. It's disappointing because this season, the way things have gone, we could have gone for it. No idea what the aim is this season is if we are don't want a European place either. Try and stay in 8th? Disappointing. I can see our season petering out now much like the last couple of seasons. Nothing to play for.

I said we would lose before the game and got slated for it.

There are two or three players that I would be cautious with and rest, these are Lallana lambert and shaw, as they are irreplaceable and have little/no backup.

We played these three and just rested players at random. Terrible terrible selection and performance, easily the worst I've seen us play under pochettino, and in the most important game too. Really glad I didn't go.

I suppose it has. But, our performance levels and results have become poorer at the tale end of the last two seasons. Despite having something to play for. This season we have nothing now.

Yeah, I agree, if he hadn't played in the first 10 games this season we may have been top with the best defensive record on the league instead of only third.

Quick question gents if you care to answer.... How the heck was he part of a team that had the best defensive record for ten games? He then wasn't available a couple of games later and that same team struggled( not all down to his absence but a part.

All that tells me is you don't really understand the big picture. He isn't the best passer of a football, but boy when fit (match fit) he is a huge presence. You keep judging as you see fit though guys, I'm sure you'll be back when he's played 10 in a row and we look solid again.

    #selective memories :)
