Terrible performance. Without our best team out we are not good enough. Especially with a "makeshift" Sunderland team out, we made them look good. Jwp can't play with that midfield as he has no direction. Wanyama can't play without the regulars as he loses the ball too much. Guly never been a top flight player same with hooiveld and kelv. Really disappointed. Would rather have stuck the kids out if he wanted to rest players, could accept a poor game and a defeat then

I loved going to the 2003 cup final (apart from the result). Despite only being young I still remember it. It just seems teams these days apart from the lower div teams don't take it seriously.

I'm not going to criticise Wanyama today, and I agree with your point that he is a certain type of player so we shouldn't expect him to be another. What I would say is that I am now more certain than ever that Cork is just about the most important player in the team. When he plays he seems able to dictate what is happening in midfield and allows the more forward players to receive the ball in good positions. They can then go on and do the headline-making stuff.

Today, Lallana always seemed to have his back to goal, Davis wasn't able to support the front players and nothing seemed to click. I really can't see any reason why Cork shouldn't have had at least the last 20 minutes (it wouldn't have mattered too much who for!).

Not helped by those tossers BT Sports picking it for a midday kick off. Can't blame the Sunderland fans, they just paid out for a trip to Old Trafford and down to Wembley.

Can't imagine how annoyed the 900 Saints fans who made the effort are feeling. We had no right to win, or expect a win, but you do expect your team & manager to give their all. If we had lost after having "one of those days" when their keeper had a blinder or the ref gave us nothing etc, you can live with it. Can't live with today's woeful lack of passion.

Saints seem to be getting a lot of stick here. Fair enough it was a disappointing performance but take nothing away from Sunderland, they were excellent, played some nice football and worked very hard for each other. The goal was out the top drawer as well.

In my opinion, one of the best performances i've seen from an opposing side this season.

Very strange???? Favourable draw tomorrow and one game away from reaching the semi's at Wembley. Two of Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal getting knocked out this weekend. Our FIRST eleven a match for any team.

Personally I'm gutted, FA Cup Winners 2014 is just about as good as it good get for Southampton FC and its supporters.
I was about when we last won the cup and the only time in our history. I can tell you the city was absolutely buzzing in the build up and in the aftermath of that great victory was unbelievable.

I recommend you take up surfing off the Cornwall coast with the current weather we're having.

Ask a Wigan fan how they felt about winning the Cup.
Ask a Swansea fan how they felt about winning the League Cup.
Ask a Saints fan how they felt about winning the Cup.
Ask a Sunderland fan how it feels to be in a Cup final
For ****s sake, ask a Pompey fan how they felt about winning the Cup.
    Your POV is completely bizzare.

Now this is correctly where the likes of Dan etc get frustrated. That's a comment made from having a thought about a player today rather than reality. Please tell me how often he gave the ball away today to lead to that comment? I don't actually remember a single time (though I suspect there was). You've said that purely because that's "what people say" about him.

Now you are taking the piss. I'd say that Saints cared about 10% about today's game and Sunderland cared about 15%. That extra 5% was all that mattered, plus a fluke shot.

They were average, at best. We were just woeful.

Cork is playing terrifically right now, but he lacks certain attributes for that position as well; to oversimplify he seems to lack what Wanyama is strong at, and vice versa. The major downfall of the "double pivot" is that you need two midfielders who can do a bit of everything, in attack and defense, and those players are extremely hard to find. Unless you can afford to be signing the likes of Vidal, De Rossi or Xabi Alonso, you just accept that your CMs are going to be missing certain key attributes if you choose to use a double pivot. Chelsea accept that Ramires will tend to get outmuscled, Arsenal accept that Arteta can't defend, we accept that Wanyama can't attack and Cork is a bit lightweight.

So you don't agree teams take the piss out of the Cups? Come on now look at amount of changes in our match today. I said nothing about how fans feel about winning the Cup at all.

Disagree strongly. Sunderland were better than us, but nobody could have been worse. They were average at best.

You were obviously watching a different game. Come back when you learn to be gratuitous in defeat. They were much the better side especially in the second half. If we'd played like them, we'd be singing the players praises.

So what if other clubs do it, doesn't mean that Saints have to follow suit. Surely we have a better chance of winning a trophy if we take it MORE seriously than the other teams???

I could only just about forgive todays selection & performance if we were right at either end of the table, or had loads of injuries, or had a game in midweek.

We have no distractions, we had a winning, confident team, which the MANAGER has undermined himself.

As a Sunderland fan I am perplexed by what I just saw from Soton. I was expecting a better side against our team which was always going to be weakened due to the League Cup and PL taking priority. But even so, the lack of desire to win in comparison, blow me!

Apart from Lambert, there were no real chances, Wickham had more opportunities on the break.

Sunderland did deserve to win, because Saints were so utterly ****ing terrible. Sunderland had a massive 3 shots on target, including the goal. Hardly stunning stuff. If you think they were great, you know NOTHING about football mush. NOTHING.
