With his knackered ankle? He's out for 5 weeks or so.

Can't find a match report but I distinctly remember him playing CB on at least two occasions.

Anyone remember Habib Beye. he was great to us, now has played 9 games in about 3 years for villa. I just remembered that match against stoke, when they came from behind to draw 2-2. Where's Guthrie btw?

That never happened mate. We always had 2 CBs available last season at any given point.

    Hmmm.

Well I suppose we have Simpson and (heaven forbid) Perch...
Squad is still paper-thin though. Even worse now Ranger and Kadar have been frozen out.

Kadar one doesnt make sense to me. Fair enough Ranger's a **** and couldnt score to save himself but Kadar always looked like a really tidy player when we used him.

So can't Kadar come out of the reserves..or are the reserves like one of the houses in the saw movies where you only come out in a casket?

    this'll cheer you up

    newcastle - Stoke 6 dec 2008 2-2
    manager kinnear - who?
assistant hughton - what happened to him

GK Given - spent 2 years on the bench at city
RB Beye - 3 years on the bench at villa
CB Colo - been replaced by his twin brother who can actually play football
CB Bassong - benched at spurs indefinitely, being kept as makeweight for further deals
    LB Enrique

    RM Geremi - "lol"
CM Guthrie - just asked about him, does he still exist?
CM N'Zogbia - suffering from insomnia, but doing alright
    LM Jonas

LS Martins - went to germany, got benched, went to russia, went missing, turned up at brum, no one wanted him, still can do flips though
    RS Micky Owen - well...

From all those who once played for us, who we thought were good players... one could argue only the Zog has remotely climbed the career ladder. And Enrique I guess, too early to tell though. Carroll was on the bench that day, jury's still out on him.

My point: let's see what the new bunch of lads can do. They'll be cack when they leave anyway.

    Hypothetically speaking, imagine this scenario:

    Newcastle v Spurs (Oct 16th 2011)

Colo timed his tackle perfectly against QPR (as he has done all season so far) and therefore was not suspended. Tiote has learned to harass players without being over zealous and giving away fouls consistently, Jonas isn't injured so Marveaux, Abeid (who has excelled in all his reserve games up 'til the Spurs game) Sammy and Vuckic are all on the bench eagerly ready to come on and replace any one of Jonas, Obertan or Ben Arfa who are in the starting line up and on top form.

Gosling and Guthrie are also on the bench, as are Ba, Lovenkrands, Raylor/Simpson, Williamson, Elliott and, oh wait, we don't have a big enough bench for all of them!

My point is, anyone can make a hypothetical situation and twist it to suit their mood.

We've replaced almost like for like at LB, We've improved with Cabeye instead of Nolan, we've not got a like for like replacement for Barton but I've got 2 theories why that is.... Firstly that we're not aiming to play the style of football suited to Barton anymore, Marveaux and Obertan will fit in better to a fast attack. The second one is that Abeid was bought as Barton's long term replacement but with the whole twitter saga and Ashley making an example of Barton we've ended up losing him a season earlier than Pardew was probably expecting.

Up front we are light. There is no question about that but that's now something we have to live with and support the guys who are out there. Personally I'm glad we didn't get Carlton Cole or someone of that ilk. For all you people talking about lack of ambition blah blah blah, THAT would have been lack of ambition and a huge waste of money as well.

This time yesterday people were talking about European ambitions again and we were buzzing with Santon joining us. We still hadn't found a striker and were no where near completing a deal yet people were happy and enthusiastic about the upcoming season. So why is it that when we haven't made a last day deal with someone (which, let's face it, would have been our 8th or 9th choice striker and a massive panic buy) we're all doom and gloom?

We will not be relegated, and yes we may struggle against some teams but who the hell doesn't?! We may also have some ****ing awesome days. Hell, we've already beaten 5under1and at their place with a back up RM playing at LB!! We've beaten Fulham at home which is a team we struggled horrendously to play against last season. We drew against an Arsenal side who weren't full strength but weren't weak by any stretch of the imagination.

Cheer up, things could be a hell of a lot worse <ok>

GK - We're absolutely fine. Krul, Harper, Eiliot.
RB - Fine. Simpson, Raylor and Perch. Santon also but he's going to be our LB so only if we have injuries or we buy a NEW LB.
CB - Fine but Situ/Remy would have been nice as back-up. Taylor, Colo, Willo, Perch and Kadar.
LB - Fine FOR NOW. Santon, Raylor and Ferguson can all play there.
RM - Fine. Obertan, Raylor, Gosling and Marvo can all play there.. also maybe Sammy Ameobi too?
CM - Fine. Cabaye, Tiote, Gosling, Guthrie, Vuckic, Raylor(See Chelsea away last season) and Smith/Donaldson/Abeid aswell.
LM - Fine. Guti, Marvo, Ferguson and Ben Arfa.
ST - Mmm.. not so fine, really should have bought a striker.. someone with pace and skill ala Suarez but if Best continues his form and Ba gains SOME form then we'll be fine until Jan.. also of course Lovenkrands and the Ameobi's can provide decent back-up.

In all a DECENT transfer window but not getting a striker really pissed me off.. :/

What happens when Ba or Best are out for several months???!! Ameobi and Lovenkrands again.. :/

Not going to lie, didn't even know he got injured against Scunny.

There must be a reason Kadar hasn't been given a number, the people that see him every day don't think he is playing well enough.

The big question is does our club turn decent players into cack, a la milner, martins, owen, luque, or do we simply just tend to buy cack that comes in golden wrapper?

Hell i forgot about milner, great at villa, pretty much benched at city.

On the other hand Stephen Carr, total pensioner with us, second wind revelation at brum. Gonna google Celest Babayaro now.

On 8 July 2010, Babayaro officially announced his retirement from football.[11]

On 9 February 2011, Babayaro was declared bankrupt.[12]

ok he's... I don't think we should let him enter our little case study here. His circumstances were exceptional.

Well said tommy, particularly about Abeid being Barton's long term replacement. He has that passing range and can play the same positions, but what he also has is more pace and skill than Barton.
