FLT, nobody with any common sense is panicking. Really - is anyone genuinely, at this stage doing so? Hands up if you are....
For our next game against Liverpool, I would play all three in the middle to stop them playing through us and would be fast on the break
maybe panicking is the wrong word. I would say that reading this a few people have higher expectations than me then.
Can I just say: - Osvaldo and Clyne were superb today! - Desperately needed Ramirez towards the last 20 mins!
I really feel for Jack Cork - one of our best and most consistent players last season, and now he can't even get on the bench. But Wanyama steadily improved throughout today's game, after a shaky start. He just needs to get used to the pace of the premiership. Some of his passing and movement was excellent, he just tends to dwell in possession and that's when he gives the ball away. Morgan does seem to miss playing with Jack though.
I would like to see us put a lot more emphasis on the fullbacks bombing on. What if we played a narrow midfield three of Wanyama, Schneiderlin and James Ward Prowse behind Ramirez, Lambert and Osvaldo? They're all versatile players They can drift about a bit. Personally, I think JRod and Lallana flatter to deceive a bit as starters but could really bring something to the table off the bench. And, yes, I know that Ramirez flatters to deceive too - but I think he's a genuine attacking mid with an eye for something different.
Perhaps people are just judging a little early. It's only four games and we are fairly happily in the middle. Other positives: We did actually create some chances Osvaldo seems quite good Maybe Sky will bugger off permanently now We're first on match of the day... Morgan didn't get sent off
I don't really care about this season as long as we don't go down. The Premier League standard has gone up by so much this season compared to last, and anywhere in the top 14 is good. We have evolved from our fast, spontaneous mistake making to our predictable, 20 minute build up play, pass it around a bit then let Jose Fonte put in a diagonal and let it go straight to the keeper, but I'd definitely take the latter. We did have a bit of a **** game compared to other home games we've played, but that was because of Allardyce's experience in playing for a draw. Osvaldo gave their centre backs a tough time, but had no support whenever he sparked a counter attack. Why did we let those ****ers sing 'Play up Pompey' and get away with it? We should have started riots, pillages, remind them about how they penetrate aquatic species in a reproductive manner.
Not many for a home game. Does he? They won't. Sky are the pimps and Saints are their whore. Since when did achievment in football get based upon running order of a **** football highlight programme? Might have been a blessing if it forced a change to the central midfield for next game But ignore me, I'm a glass half empty guy.
No one is panicking, we've seen worst days than this is the not too distant past. Expectations??? the one thing almost every football fan has...and more times than not they are never achieved. Over £30M spent in the transfer window!!! Stupid old Saints fan that I am, has fallen into that trap again, called Expectations. Am I expecting too much to hope we clinch a home win against Palace??
You see that I said panicking was the wrong word? Wow, you seem to be unhappy. £30m spent? You think we should be top? What would you like to have spent? Please tell me what you 'expected' so far this season?
MOTD - Lawrenson saying he thinks we look solid and the goals will come. Excellent bits of inter-play. Thinks we should've had a penalty.
For which incident? Thought all of the shouts were pretty questionable...JWP was bear-hugged, but with 10-15 seconds remaining in stoppage time it was never likely to be called.
Nolan at the end of the game. Says if that reaction from Nolan didn't tell the referee what he'd done, then, well...
Looked like a penalty. Also, Schneiderlin's tackle wasn't great. Didn't like the look of it in real time, but everyone else around me said the Diame was making the most of it.
Lawro being kind to us, IMO. Yes it hit Nolan's arm (the penalty shout Lawromwas referring to), but if the boot was the other foot, I'd have been furious at a penalty given against us for that. So fair enough that we didn't get it. Doesn't even compare to Johnson's handball in the Norwich game.
Says something when Mark Lawrenson is more optimistic than 80%* of people on this forum *Not a controlled study
