Sure it used to be on the evening of the match, but actually, now I think about it ... it always was Monday
Watched most of the match on Sky. A lot of positives...we made a lot of chances...I would be more worried if we created nothing. Great balls in from JWP and Dani for Lambert and JRod, respectively...on another day one at least would have been a goal. Good performances from most players, especially pleased to see Lovren and Wanyama looking so confident. Dani looked good, but has to be told to stop mouthing off at the ref...doesn't help. Yellow card scarcely warranted, but second foul (not punished) was stupid. Good performances from JWP and Chambers, especially the latter since he (like Shaw) shows maturity beyond his years. Decent start to season. MOTM = JWP with special mention for Fonte for his goal and enthusiastic celebration
Mauricio accidentally let his English out of the bag here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23737155
Yep. Struggling to think of a player who has endeared himself to Saints fans so quickly, he's so passionate and hasn't put a foot wrong yet.
Bit late, but my views on the game: - Lovren played extremely well, his distribution from the back is what we've severely been lacking at some points. He and Jose did a tidy job of keeping Sunderland out on the few times they attacked. - Wanyama is a beast, he won most of the midfield battles and in the first half made up for an uncharachteristically disappointing performance from Morgan. I think it was the most disappointed I've been with him in a long time, maybe because my standards for him are so high - Osvaldo knows how to keep the ball, and he seemed to understand Gaston well, which is pleasing because if and when that comes off more regularly, it's going to be extremely dangerous. However, we saw within 20 minutes that he's a bit of a loose cannon, he VERY nearly got himself sent off, and would not stop complaining at the ref. Performance wise though, can't complain too much and I very much look forward to seeing him play a lot more. - Adam played well. Second half especially. Got past his man, picked some decent passes and generally created well. Jay I thought was dissapointing, his finishing always seems half-hearted, but he gets in some good positions. - Lambert was very unlucky. Westwood was not spectacular but he did a good job at keeping Lambert's numerous headers out by positioning himself well. Overall I actually think it was a very encouraging performance - I think if we had played that way and won people would be very satisfied. If Sunderland hadn't got that early goal and weren't parking the bus for 88 minutes, I think we would have enjoyed a few more goals. It was a stupid goal to give away, but we never gave up the effort, so Pochettino must be fairly happy.
Good shout! Lovren went and gave his shirt to fans in the Itchen at the end of the match and gained a few more loyal fans!
I do worry about what's going to happen when some tit like Nolan starts getting on Osvaldo's case. They'll definitely try it on because of his reputation.
I know there is always a lot of shirt pulling going on in the box on set pieces, but looking at the photo gallery on the OS. Dani is really pulling the defenders shirt that is marking Fonte just before Fonte scores.
I'm not worried as I know precisely what will happen.....I think there will be more goals than reds though. Just.
Perhaps Dani could be fitted with an electric dog collar...Mauricio could just press the button to remind him to behave.
