Man oh man What a result..? What is it with these reporters why is it every time Saints get a result....from one of the current big guns....or top 6 side? They report that we were gifted the game , or the opposition were off par and played poorly. Or that they kept squandering chances and should have killed us off. Oh yes Southampton played well at times, as if that was so unusual. Fair play to Alan Shearer, his colleagues were trying to down play the result and he insisted on more than one occasion......You cannot take anything away from Saints they were brilliant......"Oh....uuu...Oh yea yes they did play well". It was similar to when we lost to United. Most acknowledged that United were lucky.......and that they had an off Day!!!! It was big of Fergy to acknowledge they were very lucky and that Saints were the best side he has seen at old Trafford this season. Even he didn't say it was because they were having a bad day...... When I arrived at the Stadium I told my mates I had a feeling in my water that we were going to get a result......They laughed and said the best we could hope for was a draw. Oh how I pulled their leg at the final whistle....they are always so negative. My final point is on the Referee I have looked and looked at the foul on Rodders and looked at the Referee's position he has to have a solid view of it. How on earth is it not a foul? The linesman on the Itchen side was as blind as a bat. To my knowledge he only had about 4 decisions that his view was clearly called for by the refereee re the byline. He got all 4 clearly wrong, 3 against us 1 against City. I am sure these guys need either glasses or a kick up the ass........or maybe both!
Over the moon with yesterday's result however... Am I being overly critical/negative by thinking that, if city hadn't gifted us two goals, we would have only got a draw despite being by far the better team once again. A bit concerned regarding how clinical we are in front of goal. Had hart not made a complete spoon of what should have been a routine save and Barry not scored one of the worst own goals I have ever seen we would only have taken a point and would now be bemoaning what was a blatant penalty. We are due a bit of luck, buzzing now. Onwards and upwards. COYS
I agree. Everyone has been saying how we will always score goals and its the defence that is the problem, I think its the other way round. I don't know what our goals to shots ratio is but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is one of the worst in the league. In other words we are creating the chances just not putting them away.
Anybody seen the Sunday Suppliment on Sky One? Started by slaughtering City players and Manchini, very brief Saints played well and deserved the win against a poor City team and then the frightening looking orange West Ham journo started with great distain on his face went back over how terrible Saints are as a club for sacking NC and how dreadful NC is. Therest of them them piled in to kick NC and the club. We appear to be under siege from the entire media who are throwing bricks at us at every possible opportunity Time that we all need to stick tight together and accept and enjoy being everyone else's most hated club!
I remember saying that if we could produce a performance for 90 minutes like the first half v Everton and 2nd halves v United and Wigan we could beat anyone in the division. Well that came true quicker than I expected!
Well many of us were upset and angry when Nigel was sacked but it has become clear to me we have stepped up to another level since Pochettino came in. We have got one heck of a manager here. I have never been so excited as a Saints fan before.
Not a bad headline to wake up to: "Manchester City’s Premier League title dream are in tatters after they were outplayed, out-thought and comprehensively humiliated by Southampton at St Mary’s." (Apologies if this has already been posted on here)
Be careful when you say "all". It was not "all". I was sad to see him go, yes. But never angry. Check my posts. Cortese had my full support. And I wasn't the only one - albeit, yes granted, I did appear to be in the minority.
To be fair most normal pundits like Shearer and the like have moved on, its the old boys is their arm chairs who are getting on my tit
When you write articles you do it in a considered manner and have time to reflect. When a group get together it can often spin out of control. We won because we were the better team on the day and made it hard for them to play...they would win probably win best of five. There have been several articles recently suggesting that the hiring of Poch looks like a good decision and that Nigel isn't the first manager to get sacked and this does not make Nicola the spawn of the devil.
Humiliated would suggest that it was an FA cup shock rather than a vibrant young side simply being hungrier than a so called big team. I think the choice of word is actually unfair to saints myself
