Well, I missed the first half, was at a miserable non league game which for some reason was not called off, so haven't really caught the story of the match. It seems like we did to them what we did to Wigan, Utd and Everton (although we didn't do it for 95 minutes), and this time got the right result. I always believe that you get what you deserve in this game, so there's no point saying that you had 12 shots, 65% possession, and the ref was crap, if you've drawn 1-1. So that's why today was so important, maybe a few weeks ago we would have drawn it. Although we were playing well over the last ten or so games, we hadn't won enough. Nigel knew that staying up is about winning not drawing and Poch will know it too. But I still felt that when we weren't winning, there was nothing in our performances to make me think we were going down. Funnily enough our worst performance was probably Villa away. Two happy weeks off now.
OK, I was wrong about Shaw, and it was Citeh that were reduced to playing on the counterattack, but... Today Saints came of age in the Premier League. Onwards and upwards! And Markus, thanks for everything
Awesome win. We controlled the game for long stretches. I loved the bit at the end where we just passed the ball around. Showed so much confidence. Are to tell who was really the higher placed team. No one has mentioned Boruc today but he made some tough saves and controlled his area pretty well. Only injury takes him out of the team now. Anyone know what the injury is to Fox? MP did well with the subs as well. We put some fresh legs in the right spots. I was hoping to see VF but maybe next game he can come in as a sub. I suspect we will head to spain for a week or so. Hope the guys can get refreshed and the injured can return. Cannot wait for the next game though. Really ready to attack the next one.
I was listening to the other results as I drove towards the stadium and felt really relaxed by the time I parked up. I knew that whatever happened we woiuld not end the day in a worse position. In the event, that was one of the best team performances I have witnessed. We were so in control and had so much composure. There was a period in the second half where we seemed to be camped in their half forever. Well done Lads. A fantastic result and everyone played a blinder!
Phew, back just in time for MOTD. What a sensational performance that was. Everyone worked their socks off and Cork was simply phenomenal. I haven't read any of the comments since the match but he was my MOTM. But every player in red was brilliant. A perfect day.
Good coverage on MOTD. Words like terrific and brilliant. Shearer wouldn't let them take it away from us...good lad.
Alan Shearer: Southampton were terrific, from the first minute to the last. Mark Lawrenson: Harrumph, they were good.
