Afternoon All

Just the one personal choice for me this afternoon :

3.05 Redcar - Ingleby Arch 10/1 (Paddy Power) - no reason apart from it's one of those horses that I seem to end up backing whenever it runs !!

Will also have a dabble on Inetrobil, Colonel Sherman.

    Cheers Trevez

Great run from Hannah England to 'steal' a silver medal there

Let's hope Dai Greene can get gold in the 400m hurdles now <ok>

Have just backed Culson for the hurdles think he will beat Green. Have had to back good old Sanchez as well at 60/1 could probs start now but used to think he was fantastic when winning 40+ races on the spin years back

I see that those bookie chappies are currently going ‘14/1 bar one’ in the 3.15 at Salisbury. Very, and I do mean very, lopsided market. It is going to be fascinating to see how it develops from here on in. Will the ‘on course boys’ be keen to lay Firdaws at her current price or will the ‘off course mob’ steam in and not allow this??? Alternatively, do they think Firdaws is too short??? Fascinating with a capital ‘F’ and the most interesting part of the racing day for me...

Meanwhile, how can anyone punt on other humans running, jumping and throwing (or athletics as some call it for some unknown reason)??? Surely, the winner will always be the bod who’s taken the strongest ‘special medicine’!

The same question could be asked about who would bet on Nicky Henderson runners- they only ever win when pumped up to the max ;)

RV and Nassau hang your heads in shame. Disgraceful comments. I expected better from both you.

Seriously, though does anyone really believe anymore that the sport of 'athletics' (or cycling come to that) is clean in the 21st century?!?

There is cheating in most sports though <laugh> Djokovic and his blisters is the funniest story - football match fixing, rugby fake blood - racing - Hendo and his needle - cycling and athletics- pumped up mad men and a blokey claiming he/she is a wife

Not sure we have many 'Taffs' on here but if we do they should be rightly very proud indeed :emoticon-0116-evilg superb run from Dai Greene there.

I believe all the medalists and a few random runners are 'tested' after the events so hopefully the majority are caught <ok>

To get away with ‘cheating’ in athletics you simply have to be one step ahead of the testers. If your pharmacy or lab is more advanced than theirs then you have no chance of being caught. Who for instance can remember the classic case from the mid 1990’s when a British chap made the Olympic 100 metres Final at the age of 36! How on earth, without ‘help’, can a 36 year-old be faster than almost every other bod in the world?!? Including those 10-15 years younger than him?!? Ryan Giggs for instance is now many, many yards slower in his mid 30’s than he was 10-15 years ago. I’m still several, several years away from the age of 36 but to say even now that I’m quicker than I was in my early 20’s is to me ridiculous (and almost everyone else would be similar).

You are right, of course, RV. Very sad that wherever there is man and money involved there will always be cheating.

All competitors in every event are tested in this championship Gary.

Out of boredom on a day off I will also be backing a fun each way patent of Dan's Colonel Sherman, Inetrobil and H'alla Petite.

Also doing a double on two shorties from GetOn - Russian War and Certerach - why not eh?

Given Gary's new-found admiration of the Welsh I guess you'll be backing Taffe in the 2.30? I'm sure he will cwm good today
