They actually had chances this time. They actually should have scored this time. A four goal victory was probably about right this time. Last season, it was not. It should have been seven or eight, if not more. We had about five glorious chances before we'd even scored last time. But if I recall correctly, as well as Haidara and Williamson, they also had Yanga-Mbiwa playing for them last season. At least it was just the two of them this time. We rightly criticised Fox and Jos on a regular basis. But come on, those guys are just as bad, probably worse. I've never seen a team chuck in the towel so easily than Newcastle under Pardew.
I am patiently waiting for the 60 min shown on match choice. Don't often watch that....this must be the first time since....the West Ham game
Yeah, he was scared that if he stood up there'd be someone new in his seat when he went back to it. Vin
Special mention to Shane Long. I thought he looked bright, linked up well with Pelle, gave it away a couple of times, but he got the brunt of some ****ty challenges. I also felt for him because the referee gave some of the strangest decisions against him today. It was almost as if he was a Hull fan.
He mentioned his sore head when he tweeted, so it does seem that he was suffering when he was subbed at half time.
Just been watching the incident with Krul, and he defintely gets punched across his face [a denied penalty, by the way], so that his head moves suddenly with the grazed impact. But he just got on with it. I noticed Pelle looked at him sharply and made a gesture asking if he was all right. Quite obviously he wasn't quite 100%
He didn't have a lot of choice in getting on with it ... Our physio was kicking off because the ref. wasn't letting him on to take a look at Long.
That was one of the best performances I've seen from a Saints team in the top flight for years. Better than any from last season, never let the tempo drop, ruthless, hungry and passionate. I love the Koeman. He's my man.
strange game, did not feel like a 4/0 but so comfortable. Early days, but like what I see under Koeman
Well, it was good, but I thought we let the tempo drop a hell of a lot once it was three nil (55 minutes).
And after we scored our 2nd goal in the first half we sat back and Toon got into the game and had 3 or 4 half chances. Koeman must have said something at HT because they certainly came out and upped the tempo again. After the 3rd went in we went into keep ball mode until the 90+ minute when opportunity, and a little Morgan brilliance, presented itself. It's why I won't have it that Newcastle weren't trying. They were trying quite hard. For example, Sissoko was a bloody handful at times, as was Gouffran. And Haidara got up and down the pitch. Newcastle just weren't good enough, but I saw plenty of effort.
That's two in a row now as well. Lots of reasons to be optimistic! Koeman certainly looks like the real deal.
Ron just tweeted a photo of himself with those rainbow laces round his wrist today to support the removal of homophobia from football, FWIW.
I like Koeman's modesty as well. He was asked what he'd done to get Morgan and Jack scoring like that...he just said that they'd done that for themselves.
Just to inform SaintRachel; I've only now seen your message, but for some reason you can't receive personal messages so i'm unable to respond. Not does it matter now, anyway.
Just got back, traffic awful getting out of Southampton, but what an amazing day! Graziano Pellè is an absolute beast, and Morgan Schneiderlin just gets better and better. His goal was just brilliant. As has been said, Toby Alderweireld and Jose Fonte worked really well together, and it was interesting that Toby went into midfield when Gardos came on for the last few minutes. Yet another option for Ron? Normally I love the Last Night of the Proms, but can't they just cut it short and get on with MOTD tonight?
Just had a very enjoyable lie in with a coffe and a commanding 4-0 victory. Fantastic team effort and I am most stoked for Cork. Rated him hugely and would have been gutted to lose him. Koeman really mist be the real deal he has transformed the situation with Morgan and transformed Corks play. I was excited this time last season, I'm even more excited this time around. Pelle was a star, great touch and hits target every time. We were solid everywhere and respect to Forster, he made some great saves (ignoring a couple of moments of uncertainty). Choice Bro.
