I'm slightly against that criticism aimed at Jay. I think he tends to rush his chances and doesn't give himself time to think. How often does he snatch at a chance 1st time and it ends up scuffing meekly towards goal. On occasions he needs to take a touch and compose himself and set up for a cleaner strike
Or both being non-British names starting with E. Nowt wrong with Maine Road and Highbury. Bah humbug.
Exactly what I've been saying all season. Rickie is devastating when he can think about it, Jay Rod needs to just hit it for the same effect. That isn't knocking Jay Rod - he just seems to hit a feeble shot and place it if he has time to think. If it comes across to him and he has to try to win it or header it, it invariably goes in if that makes sense.
You are saying what a lot of us have been thinking about Jay I think. He has all the skills and strength, and body type, to be a top top striker, but there is some kind of psychological barrier which is interfering with his shot selection when he has time to think. I am convinced he gave the ball to Guly for the penalty on Saturday because of this, as well as the fact that Guly wanted it so badly. I just wonder if Ralph Krueger might be able to help him work through this problem?
I read somewhere that Jay wanted to take it, but Guly asked him so that he could end his goal drought. At first Jay actually said no, but after talking to Guly and Schneiderlin he agreed to give it to him. I think Jay is a great player, has the speed, footwork, finishing (at times) needed to succeed at the highest levels. He does however seem to struggle when given time to pick his spot. Some of his best goals this season have been one time finishes I.e. Cardiff Away, Newcastle Away. Maybe it will come in time, and I'm sure Lambert's giving him a few pointers!
I was saying to a United supporting friend that I think J-Rod and Welbeck are very similar. They both have the wilingness and skill, but finishing lets them both down. It is something that can be worked on though.
Premier League leaders Arsenal travel to Southampton on Tuesday evening off the back of seven wins in a row. Manager Arsene Wenger says he has one or two fitness concerns ahead of the match. "We have a doubt about Jack Wilshere but Ramsey, Arteta and Vermaelen are back in the squad," says Wenger. "Oxlade-Chamberlain is not fully fit but he is getting closer. I haven't decided whether he will start tomorrow
Didn't say much about Ossie other than "he's suspended" Transfers - we have great scouts and they're looking at a couple of things. That's basically up to them to sort out. This is clearly a half-arsed effort by me as I have no doubt DTLW will shortly have a full transcript in 18 languages for you!
