el pistolero makes the right point about us building we've done very well this summer but equally we all know where the gaps lie. we can see right now that and so can the hacks i nthe press and pundit land.

I also think the arsenal model of hoping some young lad will cut it is wrong. collymore may be a bit of a clown but i think his point could be made in that only today matters when it comes to results. wilson, kelly... who knows.. .add wisdom and coady to that list... who on earth knows if they really can cut it.

right now... today... agger and carragher is not ideal and we can all see why, carrgher is seriously slowing down and agger is injury prone. If we get coates it's an amazing progressiion from last may. Agger looks fit right now and is looking strong, carragher doesn't look very good though.

I just want to say one thing...... being HAPPY with our own progression doesn't require pissing all over other teams players.... just be objective. Utd have smalling, jones, ferdinand and vidic and i really rate all 4 as very good players.... vermealen at arsenal is top drawer too. Luiz and terry are as well. We don't need to write off other teams players just cos collywobbles says we've no decent CBs.

What's happening with Coates as well? Is he a first teamer or youngster?

Sebastian Coates is 20 years old and would be considered a youngster, however, he's a full Uruguay international, and is 6ft 6 and is built like a tank. He makes Phil Jones look small. From what I've seen, he clatters into anything that moves, he's very alert and his tackling is inch perfect.

I think our defensive unit is actually very strong.

Reina is the best keeper in the league in my opinion.

At right back we have Glen Johnson (who i rate highly even if some still believe the damage that Hodgson did to his form is permanent) and Kelly who himself is a bit injury prone but i actually wouldn't swap for any right back in the league at the moment. I actually rate him that highly, though to be fair Smalling did a great job against Arsenal as well.

Agger is top class he's just too injury prone, and Carragher has lost his legs but in the big games he always performs incredibly and is slowly nurturing the rest of the defence. Skrtel i don't rate particularly, but that said he'd start for almost every team outside the top 6, which shows some depth there. Then we seemingly will have Coates, and to be honest i cans see him playing at least half of our games this season. A centreback pairing of Coates and Agger could be absolutely masterful for the next 5/6 years.

At left back we have Enrique who impresses me more and more every time i see him, and who could be one of the top left backs in the world in a couple of years. Robinson, is an able deputy and will only get better (i think he will be England's first choice left back one day. Add to that the likes of Flanagan, who has first team experience, and that's a good defensive unit. Not yet the best in the league, but completely capable of finishing top 4 and possibly even better.

    Skrtels Nips.
    Good points.
I reckon this is Jamie Carraghers last season as a first choice centre-back at Liverpool. He'll be used sparingly from next season onwards as he will be 34. He will be a stand-in, its the beginning of the end, and this is been proven with the imminent arrival of Sebastian Coates who possibly could be the heir apparent.
I also reckon next summer will see the arrival of yet another centre-back, who? Thats a good question, I also reckon Andre Wisdom in the foreseeable future will be loaned out to gain first team experience. He could be the 5th centre back eventually.
Back to my earlier point, some people notably pundits are expecting things too quickly. Kenny was never going to complete a rebuild over-night thats impossible.
The rebuild is still in its development. It may take a bit of time to make up for the damage Hicks and Gillett caused, but we're getting there. Kenny is doing a good job of shifting out the players that have no future at the club, there was 13, by my calculations there is only no more than 6 if even that.,

Interesting that you only feel United's is better. Nothing like a balanced argument...

I heard Collymore's comments about our defence and I disagreed... Like I normally do when I listen to Collymore!

Anyway, I think we are O.K in defence. We've got Carragher, Srktel, Agger and Coates when he arrives. We've also got Wisdom if our defence has an injury crisis. If Coates fulfills his potential, he will be an excellent defender.

For the moment, I think we are O.K in the defensive positions.

Our defencive unit is as solid aas anyone's in the league and better than the majority. Coates looks like a seriously good buy. We already have experience and cover without having to just throw in youngsters like last season.

As for the pundits they are merely squaking their standard line of "not quite there yet" because they can't do their job properly.

Well I would say you are better than Arsenal and Chelsea may have a slightly better defence and you are equal with City ( thanks to Kompany ).

Everyone will have an opinion but Kelly Carra Agger Enrique will take some beating. You could argue all day but Liverpool fans love that back 4.

Fair enough. Next season Chelsea will need a big shake up back there. Both Terry and Cole looked slow as **** against Norwich and West Brom (Terry even more than usual) and I think they're coming to the end. Cole wasn't great last season, and he may be even worse this season. Probably why they're looking at Pereira.

Coates looks like a right beast. Can't wait to see what he can do in a red shirt.

How do these 'people' get these jobs?

Another one, Piers Morgan, he mocks up photos to incriminate British soldiers and is found guilty of fraud basically and is sacked by The Mirror. It was traitorous, treacherous and treasonable behaviour. And now, the bloke's a multi millionaire!

    Worlds gone mad.

From that video Coates could be just what Liverpool need in the air.

Skrtel will have to look up to some one to.

At this moment liverpool's back 4 is at least as strong as any in the top 4 (supposed) teams and better than the majority of them.

No side has a complete back 4 either through injury or lack ot talent. United's defence is no better than it needs to be - even a wreck of a team like Arsenal managed 2 goals against them. Chelsea proved that as a unit they are still disorganised - Norwich did nothing spectacular but caused them problems. Arsenal - well lets see what state they are in after midnight tomorrow. Spurs - still weak. City - take comapny out and they're nothing special.
