I'm guessing the lack of apostrophies and the mis-spelling of foreigner was in the spirit of my original post! (P.S. born in Southampton to parents born in Southampton with grandparents born in Southampton)
Well, one person made most of those predictions, so maybe you have a case against them. The other two are only ridiculous with the benefit of hindsight. Lots of people said Anelka on a free was a good signing, and surely no-one would have predicted what happened there, even if they expected him to flop. Only one person said Southampton would be "in the mix at some point" regarding relegation, the same number who tipped Pochettino as the manager to watch, so they are at least neutral in that regard.
Feel it would be remiss of me not to point out that the guardian have just been awarded paper of the year by the football supporters' foundation!
Mauricio has said twice that Morgan and Adam weren't fit for 90 mins, but has ignored the question about Fonte. Therefore, I assume Fonte was a technical decision. We all know that Newcastle's goal was down to Jos, but he apparently had the best stats of a player in his position over the weekend (and made the Guardian's team of the week). So overall the decision to play Jos against Newcastle may have been the right decision (after all, we don't know if Fonte may have conceded a goal as well). Perhaps Jos will be chosen over Jose for some games.
It does make some sense - Newcastle are a physically imposing team, and Jos has a greater muscular presence than Jose.
We know Fonte has been suffering from some unknown injury issue, he is also on four yellows, both reasons may be influencing the decision to play him, but he had undoubtedly become our best in that position.
I presume you mean apart from Lovren! Apart from that one error Hooiveld had a pretty good game. I wouldn't be too surprised if he started against Spurs as well to be honest.
Yes I see Fonte and Lovren as the ideal balanced partnership, Lovren was out of position to let Hoover in, which is why it seemed that Yoshida would have been Fontes first choice replacement, it's about which foot they stand on and which foot they kick with, Hoover can only kick with his right foot, which makes it all the more puzzling why he tried to clear with his left! .. and yes apart from the gaff, Hoover had a good game otherwise, the stats emphasise it.
Hooiveld is left-footed! Lovren (and Yoshida for what it's worth) seems able to adapt to either position (and was quite bemused by the question of which side he preferred to play on when he first arrived), but for some reason Fonte and Hooiveld don't. Maybe they were spoiled by Adkins playing them only in that configuration (right-footer on the right, left-footer on the left).
Hang on I think that Hoover is supposed to be left footed! I am confused even more now......... Sorry ptf the thought dawned on me before your post.
So any news on what Osvaldo has been accused of? If this post is accurate, he either took another one in that area or something else happened that we as unaware of.
