Winning today would have shot us up to 13th. Very fine margins, the scoreline does not reflect the game. Lambert could have made it 3-2 and I'm sure we would have gone on to win from there considering how well we were playing. He didn't and we reversed the scoreline almost by our own reckoning. It just wasn't our day but it so easily could have been. Away to Newcastle who are in a false position, the manner of the performance was decent. We will stay up like I'm sure you also believe, but we also have a good number of games left against opposition that we can accrue enough points to move up into 13th or higher.

Unlucky Saints. Not the right result for you, I know, but a good open game. I think you have enough quality and I'm sure you'll have enough to stay up. Good luck for the rest of the season! <ok>

Thought Luke Shaw was given his most stringent test today but to be fair to him he stayed firm. The booking he got was probably key in him being subbed for Fox who had a shocker and aguably cost us a result.

Hard to be too disheartened after that. Newcastle are a good team now, and had the better of the game, so they deserve credit for that, but without a fair amount of luck they wouldn't have beaten us today.

Wasn't impressed by the officials but sometimes you get that.

Hooiveld and Fox looked like they had never met, a couple of mix-ups between them and the own goal was comical. Some of the hesitancy in defence was reminiscent of last season and the beginning of this, hope that isn't coming back into our game.

Not that disappointed; predicted us to lose and we did. Newcastle are a better side than some people think, and their rise in the league recently has shown that. This game is a reality check because after the City game people were thinking we'd be mid table and were no longer in a relegation battle, when shortly before we were talking about our missed chances against Wigan. The positive thing is that in all of MP's games we've played well and based on the games I think we've got a decent points return. When we play more realistically winnable games like QPR and Norwich then we'll have a better view of where we'll finish. We'll be in a relegation battle until we're mathematically safe, and then when we're safe then we can aim to extend the gap further and then aim for mid table. One step at a time; I'd still be happy with 17th but can see us coming anywhere from 10th-17th, most realistically 15th/14th.

On another note, we lost 8 out of the first 10. In the 17 since, we have lost 4.

Im sure Pards said he was 29 when he signed?! Great acheivment getting 100 goals for a club of he was that age when he signed (or whatever age but esp for that)

Just got back. Great day out. Loved the Geordies, made us feel welcome and a really friendly bunch. Only thing that was a shame was Shaw going off which to me was the only difference in the result. BIt harsh on Fox but he gave away the pen and panicked for the OG with no Toon player within half a mile of him.

The ref only had a notebook for booking us and I felt there was a foul on Clyne leading up to the second goal however he didn't change the outcome of the match.

I thought it would be too close to call before the game and there wasn't alot between two good sides who shouldn't be where they are in the league.

Mauricio Pochettino says that Luke Shaw had picked up an injury to one of his thighs, so he didn't want to risk him any more.

He is confident Luke is going to be okay for next weekend because it doesn't look too bad.

That pen was a bit tough. If Fox's hand had not got in the way it would have been blasted out for a Saints throw in.

Just watched MoD and feel slightly aggrieved. Their second goal should not have counted, not just for the fact that cisse was off side, but how the hell did they get a free kick in the first place
