Davis is now the second keeper...so I bet he plays. Pelle needs to play as he needs a chance to score to set him on his way. I would hope the team will be a strong one...this is a game we should and can win.
I got the impression from Solent has Koeman will be taking both Cup's seriously this season. So maybe something like: Davis, Clyne, Gardos, Hoovield, Targett, Cork, Reed, Taider, JWP, Isgrove, Long (Having never seen Taider play before, I'm not sure where he would play. But then again, we could always play him out of position - I mean, I'm not convinced that we're playing Davis in the correct position at the moment. Or Long).
Don't agree. Time for team to get used to each other, get a win and score some goals. I'll accept Davis in goal and give Taider a go, but otherwise play our main side.
I get the reasons why a manager would do it (and would probably do the same in the League Cup). The team brendy posted was exactly the sort of team Pochettino would have played in this game though and the "taking the cups seriously" comment seemed a little out of place alongside a suggested team with 9 changes
We've just paid in the region of £20m for Gardos and Long. I'd like to think that giving them their first starts would hardly be weakening the team!
Giving experience is of course necessary but not all at the same time. You're looking at a back 4 of which 3 are 21 or under and none of them will have played competitively together at the same time and a few in the team who have never played in the 1st team at all. You need to give useful experience to youngsters, which isn't by throwing them together piecemeal and saying right, off you go.
I would normally say play 5/6 Academy youngsters who know each other, but I think we need to play a near first 11 for confidence.
Mixture of the first 11 and the kids. We'll know after the game whether Koeman is taking them seriously, it would make a nice change from the last few seasons. I reckon: Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Targett, Cork, Taider, Davis, Isgrove, Pelle, Long. With the rest of the first 11 making up the bench (Tadic, Yoshida, JWP etc)
We do need to play those that are currently first reserve mind. We will be incredibly lucky if Clyne is an ever present this season. So we've got to play either McCarthy or Stephens or whoever Koeman has in mind. If they don't inspire confidence then we'll need to bring someone else in whether it be Byram or whoever. Same goes for Targett

A lot of the teams you're proposing are severely lacking in on pitch leadership. Cork for Schnitzelin. Taider for Davis. Start Long and Gardos. Keep Forster.
