Well said Bart. Negativity spreads like a virus, and the players (and manager) will not be helped after reading the abuse getting dished out on these forums. As you so rightly said, positivity will lead to confidence which will then lead to goals and wins.
As an older guy all I have to say is sorry I could not disagree more, when something is wrong and has been for a half season and a couple of weeks, then is the time for action, not crossing fingers and hoping for the best!
Oh dear. Here goes. 1, I don't mind the fact that Bruce tried to keep Bent. He is a quality goalscorer. That said once was enough. No one should be able to hold my club to ransom for fun. 2, Flo may well have been a few years back but are you seriously suggesting it couldn't happen again? Many of the forwards linked this year have the potential to flop. Crouch, Defoe etc. 3, Keane left us bottom three. Yeah we are quite rightly demanding but two bad results. TWO. Have a word. If we are bottom seven by October I may change my opinion. August however is a bit early for a hit squad. IMO.
THIS Some of our fans should simply get behind the team - and be f*cking positive for a change - just watch the diference positivity makes. Like CyprusMackem says - the time to panic will be mid Oct if we are still in the bottom six and playing c r a p - OR at the end of the season if we don't finish in the top 10 etc. Lol Bart PS - successful teams do not sack good managers (and IMO SB is a good manager) after 2 games.
Oh dear here we go again! More weak & contradictory arguments 1) You state no man should be able to hold a club to ransom. You are very correct but Bent blatantly did and Bruce awarded him more money for his trouble. Bent still went on to **** upon him big style. 2) As for FLO I never said it couldn’t happen again. What I said is nothing has happened after 8 months and we still haven’t got a recognised striker. As for Crouch and Defoe I would have the two in the Sunderland squad at a drop of a hat. All players have the potential to be flops but you can’t get scared just because you have been stung well over 10 years ago. I doubt Bruce has even thought about Flo. What you suggest about waiting for a striker to eventually come along is ridiculous especially after 8 months. I am afraid that we haven’t got that luxury and the transfer window is closing soon. Even Bruce is criticising his players for not taking opportunities. Guess what happens when you can’t score goals? 3) Oh and what has happened to a natural left back the team has been screaming out for but that’s another argument isn’t it? Perhaps he is still waiting for the right man to come along. You can’t be too careful can you? 4) I never said Keane didn’t leave us bottom three. What I said I appreciated the fact that he dragged us from near oblivion and got us back into the Premiership and kept us there. Admittedly at a cost. Can I ask if you supported Keane the year he got us promoted? Although I think I already know the answer. You say that Bruce has had only two bad results? How many games have you watched during his tenure? Before you ask I travel home every home game and attend numerous away games. For the record I would never allude or even suggest that the team’s current failing lies with the magnificent supporters of SAFC. Would you Cyprus?
The most vocal people are always those with the strongest opinions, and the internet is the easiest place for them to express themselves. I find it funny that several of those in the Bruce out brigade are never seen when the going is good, and seem to thrive on negativity and turmoil. I know Bruce isnt perfect, but no manager is - unless you start talking about top 4 manager which we have no chance of getting. MoN, Hughes or any manager will not be able to satisfy all the fans. 2 league games and talking about sacking bruce is ridiculous imo. Did Bruce get the starting x11 wrong against Brighton, probably. Should we sack him 2 games in, and cause disruption in the dressing room (new signings signed 'cause of bruce) ? No, should we hell it would cause more problems than it would solve.
Oh I'm not a proper fan, as I don't go to games. My opinion can't possibly be as valuable as yours! Is that it? The fans of SAFC are in my opinion the best thing about the club. What I think your referring to is I suggested nervousness in the stands can transfer to the pitch. Obviously you going to every game are far more knowledgeable than I on these matters but people within the game are far more knowledgeable than you. Many of them say it. Did Sunderland not look nervous to you last week? You tell me, you were fortunate enough to be there. Quinn and Bruce will buy when it's good for the club. Not when you want them to. We already have the best squad I can remember in my 45 years supporting (Doh, I haven't been for 8 years so I guess it's only 37 years supporting. Properly like). It's quite amazing Bruce managed to sell most of the Keane **** for profit and turn them into todays squad with relatively little outlay. Try not to be so negative. The sun is out, Bruce Quinn and co will get it rite. All you need is a little faith.
What you need is a bit of common sense and start reading threads correctly and stop accusing people of things they havenât said. I never said that your opinion wasnât valued. I never said that you werenât a proper fan. I never even said I was more knowledgeable. Have you got a number of insecurities? You obviously just make it up as you go along. What I asked is how many matches you have watched under the Bruce tenure. I questioned your statement of only two poor games. Read your own thread you alluded that it could be argued that the fans were putting pressure on the players and this may be the cause of their poor performances. Poor very rich (seasoned proâs) lambs bottling it after only a few games because they canât take a bit of stick. You still havenât clarified why this pressure didnât affect Newcastle or Brighton. However saying that you still havent answered quite a few of the other questions that I posed. Funny that! The trouble with you is that keep contradicting yourself and claiming people say things that they havenât. You sir are not very credible in fact itâs quite embarrassing how you behave. I seem to remember that you behaved the same to Cestria! All you need is a bit of faith. From a man that admits he hasnt been to a match for 8 years. Hilarious.
why oh why do we need to fight each other? I am very, very passionate about our team but we dont need to fight. I honestly dont think there is a right and wrong, its just our opinions, we all have them.
Opinions are fine Syd, but VITRIOLIC ABUSE against board, manager, or players of MY football club from its own "fans" is bang out of order.
The two poor games I was referring two were of course this season. But you knew that didn't you? In the eight years I've not been to a home game I've lived in Cyprus, Afgan, Iraq, Qatar and now Hayle. All I'm sure you'll agree all would involve considerable cost to commute which I alas can't afford. You would think someone so fortunate as yourself would have slightly more positive outlook. If you read properly what I said on Cest. I said he was one of the best posters we had. Don't agree with anyone spouting vile **** at people for fun. Do you? I never realized you have to be lucky enough to attend the SOL to have faith. We live and learn. I really should be flattered you pay such attention to my ramblings. I can't even remember your name before yesterday. As your such an ardent follower, could point out any of my supposed contradictions I may of made.
I am not a mind reader therefore I didn’t realise you were talking about the two games. As you said I should have known that shouldn't have I? You’ve accused me of saying things I didn’t now you’re accusing me of thoughts I didn’t have. Don’t you ever stop? If you think you ramble then so be it. Your words not mine although I think your right. As for contradictions read your previous post and my comments to them. One thing we have in common is that I too don’t agree with spouting vile **** at people. As for living away I too have lived away in various countries mainly USA & Canada not to mention many UK counties so I appreciate that its hard to get back home. However, when I visited Sunderland I always planned to catch a match. However I agree thats not faith but just a yearning to get back and see the lads. Im sorry that you could catch one match home or away in eight years it must have been painful. Didn’t you fancy the Brighton match? Not too far from where you are or is it? Last post on this one promise.
Aye Brighton's just down the road mate. Geography's not a strong point is it? Not going to games is indeed painful cause I used to love it. These days I have my kids to fill the void and catch the lads on TV when I can. Strange thing is, during all my time going to Roker Park and the SOL. A time when I missed about five games in 20 odd years (despite living away for a large part of it) I would have given my right arm to have the squad we have today. Hasn't Brucey done well?
Ffs we have only lost one league game and got a very good point at Anfield. Yes selection in the cup was poor and we need improvement on the left but I can't help feeling the negativity towards Bruce has something to do with the fact he is a Geordie.
Bruce has improved us year on year. The fact is though there is always going to be some waiting for the chance to pounce on him at the first sign of trouble. It happened last year. Despite finishing our highest position in years the injury crises was Bruce's fault. This year one very good result, two very bad and it's Bruce to the sword. It's always going to be. Win and Bruce will do. Lose and he's a Geordie. No wonder he calls the hysteria. "Pathetic".
Right. To all of you who say "its only 2 games into the season", I cant argue with. BUT. Bruce has been here the last 2 full seasons. It's his team. His tactics and has been all that time. So look at his record from, say January 2nd. Go on. Look at it. Bruce out. x
