How anyone can say that a team with the stature of Liverpool were under no pressure - at one point being 2nd from bottom - is not only a complete mystery but shows that no thought whatsoever was applied to our situation/plight. What would have happened if Kenny had come in and got it totally wrong? Ever stopped to ask yourself that? We'd have been in the Championship by now. You're trying to tell us how difficult it is how to break into the top 4? WE KNOW!!!! Remember, we had to endure the Souness/Evans years.
Well we certainly saw him perform well over the course of the season not just one game. A lot of Liverpool fans seem to forget that you don't get bragging rights over Manchester United when Liverpool beat them once in a season, and they beat twice and won the premier league.
What? You wrote, and these are direct quotes: "If you are right then you should 'walk it'." This means that you believed I had the opinion that Manchester United would walk the league, which I have not said once in this thread. Even if they aren't direct quotes, they still infer that I believe that, which I don't. Read back to page 2. KPR wrote: "Nobody is writing Man United off, they might and this is just a might struggle having to introduce a new keeper." I replied with: "Yes but you are classing them in a bracket below Man City and Chelsea, when neither teams have strengthened much after last season where United won the league by 9 points." There in your words, is me "refering to United being equal contenders to Man City and Chelsea."
You really didn't study English language at school did you? Go and ask somebody to explain to you what I wrote actually MEANS. No wonder you provoke argument rather than discussion when you have little or no means to understand what other posters are saying to you.
So what do you mean then? Why don't you stop saying I don't understand basic English which is quite obviously untrue and start explaining how your ' drastically changed the meaning of that sentence.
Man U & Chelsea will be the main contenders.Im not convinced about Man City...plus they are incredibly dull to watch and its a shame considering the amount of expensive players they have in their squad. Liverpool should be back in the mix for champions league places(Personally i feel 3rd is achieveable) and i feel its premature to write off Arsenal so soon(thought its dependant on if they hold onto Nasri/Fabregas).
When I said, "If you are right then you will 'walk it' ", it refered directly to the arguments that you had made. It DID NOT put any words in your mouth; nor did it it imply that you had done so. The use of the single mark ' ' indicated that I was using a hackneyed phrase. If I wished to quote you directly then I would have used quotation marks " ". This is just simple grammar. Throughout the dialogue we had, we used the direct quote facility. The comments written were therefore exclusively in relation to that quote. Nowhere in that dialogue were City or Chelsea mentioned or any refernce implied. If you wished to go beyond that you should then have used a device such as "as I said to KPR" to expand the point. I trust that this explanation helps you to undertsand my response
Bloody hell Dave. I hope that was a 'deliberate mistake'. I'm sure it was. Either way, you may well get slated for it, so I'd make the point it was a 'deliberate mistake' as soon as possible.
I'm not being bad or anything but I don't consider Spurs a threat. There is a number of reasons, They have a big squad. It is a big squad filled with average to mediocre players with the exception to a small few ie Bale,Lennon,Modric and Dawson and Van Der Vaart. To call the likes of Defoe,Jenas,Corluka,Crouch and Palacios and Huddlestone decent players is an insult to decent players. Before anyone says that they finished above Liverpool. They did finish above Liverpool albeit it a Liverpool that was in both crisis and financial melt-down. Lets see how they compete with a Liverpool that has just re-emerged and is now flexing its muscles? They have no prolific forward, they have a calamitous keeper and one good centre back. How on earth can a side compete when it dependent on keeping a centre back fit by allowing him not to train. Ledley King is the new Paul McGrath. Paul McGrath played matches but never trained, he wasn't able to, his knees were shagged, Ledley Kings knees are banjaxed. In my honest opinion I cannot see Chelsea having a two month period like they did last season. I firmly believe that they are the team to beat when it comes to the premiership. And if City keep Tevez and gel as a cohesive unit, I believe they will be Chelseas main threat,as they have a squad that is any managers dream. I'm not being bad or anything but I still believe that the loss of a premiership experienced keeper will prevent Man United from being crowned champions for the new season at least.
I see the three main contenders being Man City, Chelsea and Utd. All three have the ability to win it, but all three have weaknesses as well. Chelsea will have one eye on the Roman's dream i.e champions league, Man City look strong at the back, but without Tevez who'll get the goals as i don't rate Ballotelli or the german camel. United's strongest eleven looks ok, but have a weak midfield and what happens if Vidic or Ferdinand get injured. Arsenal i think are in freefall, Wegner is so stuck in his way's his stubborness will be there undoing. Spurs sorry, weak at the back, no 20 goals a season striker. We have problems at the back, will Kenny find the right balance in midfield? But going forward we'll score goals. 4th is a very realistic target anything over and above that is a bonus.
I'll give you my honest opinion. I can see Man City winning the CL before they will win the premier league. There is two reasons, I cannot see them under Roberto Mancini winning the premier league and their overall style has them equipped to win the CL. The other reason is, Roberto Mancini is Rafa Benitez with money. Thats why I feel that Man City will win the CL before they win the premier league. Its the way he manages, he doesn't man manage, he's cagey and defensive and his sides are generally hard to beat and considered by many to be dull and boring. Rafa's management strategy was based on an Italian philosophy and Mancini is...Italian.
I get that impression too in regards to the style of play. Its funny how mancini doesnt get anywhere near as much flak as Benitez did.I will disagree on the CL thing though(at least for this season) it will take some time to cater to the egos and high earning prima donnas that seem to be attracted to City. Strangely i fancy Arsenal to go far in the CL this season but to falter in the league.Could be Wengers last chance at a trophy.
Suarez left peg. If I were a betting man and had to pick and English side to win the CL,My tips would be Chelsea and Manchester City. City have the tools to the win the CL. They do have an ego problem and possibly for them to fulfill their potential they need a manager with a bigger ego than their players and thats why I feel that Jose Mourinho would be more of a success at City than United. Arsenal won't win it, they will possibly get to another quarter final but they haven't got enough about them to get any further. A lot of people have said Arsenal are like a dumb blonde, great to look at,but when you get past that...nothing. Man Uniteds lack of a central midfield will prevent them from winning the CL.
Until Barcelona and Real Madrid decide enough is enough in the Champions League I don't see an English club winning it in years....
Mourinho had a fair crack at it,and may want to become one of the managers to have won it 3 times with 3 different clubs. He's already won it with Porto and Inter. It was a formidable Barcelona that stood in his way last time. However, this will not be the case this time as nobody has managed to retain the CL since its revamp in 1992. I can't see this changing. However, even though Real Madrid are shakey in defence, Mourinho has a habit of making his teams tight. He did so at the Bernebeu against Barcelona, and it took Messi at his brilliant best to break them down. If they can avoid Barcelona, and Barcelona get knocked out early,Real Madrid along with Chelsea and Man City as a long-shot would be my tips.
defending my opinion is one thing but i think i can do it without insulting anyone regardless who they support. So many of these discussions start off well and then degenerate into slanging matches over trivial things...and its very boring.
If you are refering to my spat last night, I did not insult anybody until I was directly accused of something that I had not done. At that point I feel justified in turning my attack directly upon my opponent. Though I did not swear and I based my put down upon fact.
Thats the thing that grinds my gears about Man United fans. If you don't agree with them and have a different opinon your either deluded or idiotic. This is what causes slanging matches. They well able to point out the obvious flaws in the Liverpool squad and exaggerate some of them, but however won't admit to their own. Some of us think that they may NOT win the league in the coming season. Its our opinion, and yet we are both idiotic and bitter and deluded. Even though we have provided valid reasons for why we think this. I cannot for the life of me understand this, and to be fair we have provided fair and unbiased debate. We have pointed out the reasons why Liverpool will not win the premier league and those reasons are glaringly obvious.
