Fonte's decision to run forward and make a high challenge, completely missing it, allowing a player through on goal and having to commit a foul in order to make up for it, was the most obvious of a few mistakes. Yoshida did little wrong. Davis could and probably should have given Jelavic a goal.

We were certainly sloppy at times and it didn't seem the prettiest of wins, but I think the scoreline flattered Hull, they were resolute but clearly second best throughout.

Could do with a few more of those kind of results, where we're not quite putting it all together at the end but grind out wins anyway.

If there was any more lingering doubt, it was Fonte's goal.

How close were Cork and Guly to goals! If they had scored you'd know it was meant to be our night.

They were very good at the back. Outnumbered in midfield, and useless up front, thankfully.

I'm calling it, so yes, with 12 games left. Feels a bit strange really!

Just two points away from last season's total - 13 games to go. :)

To be fair, he was fairly mobile and either him or young Sam would not be a bad shout. Give Rickie a rest. I don't think Sunderland would like a mobile striker.

Only 4th team to win at Hull. Tough place to go. Said it before, and I will say it again till i'm blue in the face, but Steven Davis is just the most fantastic player for us. His work rate is unbelievable, and always the first man supporting an attack. Terrific player. Cork was excellent as usual. Chambers and Shaw superb. In fact, all the defence were great. In fact, the whole team were great. Rickie's passing wasn't.

Gives us extra impetus for the cup run I'd say, although being only 2 points behind Man U is a bit tantalising. Great performance tonight, yes there were errors both in defence and attack but for once we got the win we deserved. That is 5 away wins this season, anyone like to suggest when we last did better than that in the Prem?
