So you have swallowed the bankers propaganda hook line and sinker. In life not one person is indispensible. Not the Queen or the President of the USA and certainly not some casino sharp masquerading as a banker.

This is very true, anyone who thinks the country can survive without banks is beyond studpidity.

In my experience economists know the cost of everything and the value of nothing. Their short termism policies and assett stripping have crippled this country.

What we need is the resurection of our manufacturing base and to ensure that it is run by people who model themselves on our great Victorian bosses.

The last thing we need is yet more economists. That is just chucking good money after bad.

The financial industry has certainly brought a lot of money into the country (especially important as our other industries have declined), but their recent downfall has been due to excessive risk taking. Probity is what I look for first in anyone handling my money..something that's sadly lacking in society in general.

Well said. I teach PE and remember getting some feedback from a parent informing me that after her son had left school he got a job in the building trade in London. She told me that the employer had said he had got the job ahead of other applicants because he had completed the Community Sports Leadership Course because this meant he had the relevant leadership skills required for the job.

Great original post. Nice one. I happen to have an economics degree, Joey B, among my "achievements" and it was pretty useful in my marketing career for a massive producer. We made things and sold them. As we sold lots we could give jobs to lots of people and they had money to spend on other goods and services-this is called capitalism, and if we get it right it works. Bankers make nothing and now have the gall to withhold loans from entrepreneurs who could create wealth. Bankers paying themselves big bonuses is not going to get us out of this chip-pan.

It's also nice to see Alan Pardew doing so well. There are plenty of us Saints supporters who will forgive his errors of judgement [whatever they were] that got him sacked. Just been reading this article which shows that his tactics and principles are right, on the whole.

Make no mistake, I'm entirely happy that Nigel is our manager, and that Nicola made his decision to appoint him. It's just nice to confirm one's thought that the manager before really did know what he was doing, and Newcastle have got themselves a good 'un. Hope he continues to do well. He started us off in the right direction.

Why is the world imploding? Why are leading economies failing and sending the world’s economy into chaos. In simple terms we have all been living beyond our means. Growing up in affluent counties and getting used to having everything we want in general terms, has created an unrealistic expectation. This expectation has developed an attitude that we deserve what we want regardless of our own productivity and effort in creating it.

Greed has always been the motivator of business in wealthy societies. Business sees only the possibilities for milking their efforts to the nth degree and living an unrealistic lifestyle that is prone to failure. Governments, in representing these businesses and corporations, have gone down the path of overextending their debts and through mismanagement caused economic hardship to their own.

Now we are beginning to suffer the consequences of the corruption and political agendas of our free enterprise systems. Capitalism is driven by competition and greed, the path of which can create class systems and segregation. This is not only within countries but worldwide; strong economies flourishing while poorer economies are suffering and living in poverty. The inequities in our world are astonishing, considering our combined wealth and technology.

What will it take to recognise that capitalism as it stands is tearing the world apart? With trillions of dollars being spent on weaponry and war, space exploration and political power and maintenance, is it any wonder we are about to face a new world?

The monetary systems are failing because those in control of them have their own agendas. The US Federal Reserve is a perfect example. The world bankers who are in control change interest on every influx of cash, keeping American in constant and unrelenting debt. The bankers as a consequence get wealthier from every military action, war and mismanagement of the government. While they feather their nests the US economy sinks further and further into massive irretrievable debt. When will it end?

Socialism and communism has failed outright and capitalism is now suffering the same fate. There is no simple answer but there has to be a new and more equitable view of how we create a balance and maintain prosperity throughout the world. Our resources and technology can support the world’s populations easily, yet we choose to remain separated, lost in our selfish needs and wants.

How a new world order will eventuate is hard to imagine given that no-one will want to give up whatever they have. But if nothing changes, at some point in the future, we will lose everything. Everyone wants the same things: peace, safety, shelter and food. These are fundamental needs of which much of our world’s population is deprived. We, in wealthy societies, take these things for granted. It is time we looked outside our own backyards.

Well I certainly agree with him. For those of you who can't be bothered to read, try watching the film Inside Job, which documents the years leading up to the 2008 financial crash in America, but it's equally valid for this country.

The banks and insurance companies got us into the financial mess we are in today, and none of the billions of dollars and pounds of bonuses paid to the people responsible have been paid back, or ever will be. Instead, the likes of you and me are having to pay with reduced pensions and increased retirement ages if we are lucky enough to still have a job.

I know we are all responsible for own actions, but I know people who got into financial trouble at a very young age because it was made easy to borrow money and the low minimum payments allowed on credit cards. When credit cards were first introduced, the minimum payment would clear your debt in a reasonable time, but now it takes forever.

It is so nice for the people to make judgements with the benefit of hind site......not too mention experience. After it has gone wrong there seems to be a band wagon that every jumps on to criticize the mess we eventually found ourselves in. Yet while every thing was going right and you were enjoying the benefits of what the bankers were doing. They were all jolly good fellows!! What ever the rights or wrongs of it why criticise people for earning bonuses for doing their job. What they were doing was not illegal they were not breaking any laws. So why should they pay bonuses back for effectively doing the job their superiors gave them to do. The same as now the bubble has burst it is these same people who have been given the job of rebuilding the financial economy. By it's very nature it is what they are paid to do. If you were in a manufacturing world and something was wrong with your product and you had to replace it. So production had to temporary increase so over time had to be worked. Would you expect to work that overtime for nowt? To correct a fault you knew nothing about?.....Somehow I don't think so.....
