As good as we all know Lallana is, and as much as I love Rickie & Jay, I'm convinced only Lallana will go to Brazil. And likely he will only be a sub if he gets to play at all. Definitely NOT saying that the other two shouldn't go, but this is what I think will happen simply for the very reason that they 'only' play for Southampton.
Also for all those in the Midfielder debate, please don't over look Davis. He does a lot for the team that often goes un-noticed.
I had no idea either, until I heard a stat on Monday that we were the only PL team to have had four players feature in every game so far. Rickie, JWP, Adam and Jay. Obviously we now have just Adam and Jay.
I don't think Roy is as bothered that players play for 'big' clubs. He has already sung our praises for all the players that we have in contention, and he watches us a fair bit.
I think that Lambert will go if only for that 'plan B'. Carroll has been injured all season and now faces more games out. He would have to have a blistering end of the season to stand a chance.........plus 1 goal and 2 assists in front of Roy shows that Lambert is not just a 'Plan B'. He probably thinks 'If I can keep hold of this job for a few years I am watching the future England'
I agree...Roy has given chances to players outside the usual teams. Lallana should get in on pure quality, but Rickie and JRod will depend a lot on injuries to other players.
Noticed this while looking for something else: please log in to view this image Twelve-goal out, he does nothing right.
I'm a stat geek, but there are things that stats do not capture well. In Jay's case, it's his movement...he doesn't have great numbers in passing success, or finishing, but he's constantly getting into dangerous areas, and consequently he's scoring a lot of goals and generating a fair number of chances for others.
On way home from game, I see everyone is bashing Wanyama which wont help but... He really wasn't good today, glad he came off at half time, hopefully he'll get 20-30 mins in the next game and get back on form. Clyne made good impact when he came on & was impressed with Fonte at the back directing Yoshida as Lovren does to him. Good 3 points onwards and upwards.
Pochettino's fault. He dropped Cork for Wanyama? If he had dropped JWP for Wanyama then that would be the debate.
To add to the England stuff, its pretty universally recognised that Lallana is pure class. I know its been said a lot on this forum of late, but he is looking kind of 'elevated' at the moment. His belief in himself is sky high, and coupled with the technical ability he naturally has he is looking like he belongs at a world cup. England will need players that can keep the ball well, especially in the heat that they will experience. He will do this and some.
Lallana is the best English player playing anywhere right now. That's not being biased, he just is. If England don't pick him and possibly build the team around him, more fool them. Too long we've had England sides with players who can barely trap the ball, let alone keep possession and play with their head up like Lallana does. He's not a luxury player anymore, he barely gives the ball away, he creates, he scores. What more could you want Roy?
In fairness, while obviously he's been really good this year, you genuinely could make arguments for those five things being weaknesses of his.
