The good thing is that Kenny has somewhat assembled a squad when ALL the players are useful. There was players under Rafa that were heralded but after 5 minutes Rafa had doubts about them ie Babel, Dossena, Keane, to a lesser extent El Zhar and Degen.
I'll show you what I mean.
When we played Exeter in the Carling Cup, Kenny made 8 changes from the side that started against Arsenal. Okay one of the players that started against Exeter but didn't against Arsenal was Luis Suarez so its a no-brainer yes. Wrong. Its the benefits of having a big squad full of players that can be depended on and trusted.
The majority of the players in that 25 man squad will be used. In 2008, Rafa had in my opinion 16 players he could depend on. Injuries to certain players ie Torres and Gerrard hurt him. The squad was badly spread out in certain areas. I used to cringe when Rafa used to bring on Nabil El Zhar because he was unconvinced by Babel.
It looks good for the future, okay its not perfect yet, but seeing as the wage bill has been significantly decreased there may be room for 1 or 2 additions in January to freshen things up maybe adding a centre back and a striker.
