The #9 is an important thing for us. We have had some spectacular players lead the line. But I don't think you have to BE spectacular to gain it. The shirt itself can make you better.

Don't give it to anyone, but if someone earns it with performance and loyalty. That is what the #9 means in my mind.

15+ goals a season and he deserves it imo. He's taken his chance and works best when he knows he has something to prove, he can have the shirt if he gets 15+ goals but as long as he knows there's somebody right on his tail waiting to nab it off him.

If best actually scored 15+ goals he would be most likely sold...the sad reality that is newcastle now....simple wont progress under the current ownership

 

I actually seen best in the gate the day before the fulham game as was supprised how tall he actually is...he doenst look that big on the tele lol

 

As much as i don't think he's anything special i'd love to be proven wrong. I really don't think he'll be able to sustain his goalscoring i would be the first to eat humble pie and hold my hands up. i think if he scored somewhere between 15 and 20 goals i wouldn't have a problem with him being handed the shirt. HOWEVER is still think having that shirt available might be the carrott needed to get in another established and recognised striker. it might help in negotiations. As for it being a local lad, it'd be nice in an ideal world but as tash mentioned it won't guarentee you loyalty.

I know it's cynical but I'm only getting him because I know he's very unlikely to be sold, but is still a player I rate. Just have to hope he hits the goals trail.

Yeah he's another, might get him on the black strip. Dont want loads of them though as it looks **** in a year or two.
