I do think the fans should do something to honour what Adkins has done for our club. What does everyone think? Adkins T-shirts? His face and an adkinism? Has anybody thought about writing a letter? (gets ready for following abuse for being soft/cringeworthy/sentimental). I know it sounds silly but Adkins has clearly got little thanks from the club, I feel its up to the fans to show grattitude.

Man City manager may be fluent, but he stumbles and pauses a lot. Not at all interesting to listen to.

In "The World of Cortese" there is "no room for sentiment".

For genuine football fans it is all about sentiment. We love our club with a passion, feel we almost know the players personally, and cant wait for the next matchday!

The timing of NA's sacking seems unbelievably bad, but if NC has his new man ready to take over then why should he delay the change of manager? It could lead to Saints moving up to the next level sooner than any of us can imagine.

But for Nigel, I just feel the hurt. I would love to be able to walk up to him, give him a hug, thank him for all he has done for MY team and wish him every success in his next job.

One thing is for sure - in two and a half years Nigel Adkins has enhanced his reputation hugely. All the best Nigel, and thanks,

Nigel has done wonders for us, but we have also been good for him. He is no longer Nigel Who? (though Sky still call him Atkins). I hope he has a really good career...I would hate to think he won't get another chance in the PL.

Very small survey group, but fans I have spoken to this morning seem to be more positive today and hope the new man does well. As one said, Cortese hasn't let us down before, has he?

Exactly my concern. While he is clearly a good manager and has potential surely the language barrier is going to be a problem. I don't see how you can be as effective at man-management relying on an advocate? I'm sure some will disagree with me but it can't be the same in the dressing room.

I think so. Apparently he understands some English, and did speak a bit to show effort. He seems a bright guy, I don't think it will be too long before he is making an effort pre match etc.

It was horrendous listening to Dalglish when he was Liverpool manager.

I don't think you can exscuse Cortese's decision at all. Adkin's was the "perfect fit" for Saints and to suggest that he would have been unable to take us to another level is absolutely stupid. We will never be capable of finishing in a place that guarantees European football and the apserations of most Saints fans surely centres around beating English teams and not clubs from abroad who we might not have heard of. Southampton have always been a "famaily" club and this is why Nigel Adkins fitted the bill so perfectly. Realistically, mid-table PL would be a massive achievement for a club of our calibre and we will never match the asperations of the larger clubs. In fact, I think most Saints fans would rather revel in the fact that we are under-dogs. The disgraceful sacking of Adkins shows how little Cortese understnads the supporters.

The appointment of an Argentinian (!!) and someone who can barely speak English is equally ridiculous. No matter how good his ability in Spain, in the EPL he will never be able to communicate his ideas to the players and this appointment strikes me as having had as little thought at when we appointed Portliveet. I would much rather have stuck with an English manager who was beginning to grasp this league and who, with support and encouragement, would have stablised this club - the one thing that this club has been crying out for. Serious, I believe that we should have stuck with Adkins for about five years , through thick and thin. The successful teams always have long-serving managers. I can't see this new bloke hanging around. He will either fail spectacularly or more back to Europe - it will definitely not be an appointment that will last more than a few seasons. When we are relegated in May as we surely will now be, I think Cortese will realise the error of his ways. Yesterday's decision was as bad as anything done by Lowe. Shame on you, Nicola.

Thats right and who is to say we won't do even better. Several on here have criticized the tactics and subs at times. We have to give the new guy a chance.

Can we have three types as that is how they seem to fall at the moment:

    - Hot headed and down right silly

    - respectful and grateful

    - thoughtful and constructive.

I think I have posted under all three such has been the roller coaster of my emotions over the last 24 ours.

    Thanks.
