If McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes want a Force India driver, it's going to cost them:

In Ferrari's case, I'm not sure they would pay extra to get one of them out of his contract, unless they are convinced Massa will suck badly in 2013.

No I agree, for me it would make more sense to roll Massa over for one more year. This also points towards James Allen's theory that potentially Perez could be Mclaren bound!

There are only two drivers I can see partnering Alonso next year; Massa or Schumacher, and the former is far more likely.

I've said awful things about Massa (though not just awful things) recently but I'm happy to see him coming good again. If Ferrari are genuinely concerned about costs, and Massa's form really is back, then why rock the boat? Surely it would be the justification of their faith in him during his difficult recovery, and a humanising PR goal to boot?

He also says "to put a young guy to Ferrari with the pressure of Ferrari, you need more experience" which could also rule out the likes of Hulkenburg and Di Resta.

Good point. All 3 have just 2 seasons experience of F1, so to discount Perez on the grounds of experience would also count out the others.

Maybe Massa has one more year left after all.

Not only does he comment on Vettel, he specifically compares him to Schumacher at Benetton. The question is, when would Vettel go to Ferrari? They have an heir to the Schumacher legacy already with at least 5 years left in him...

Also is it just me who keeps being bombarded by audio adverts for P&O cruises even when logged in on here?

Massa still is the same, he hasn't suddenly got some form back, sometimes he's fast at the start but then just drifts away as the race goes on or he's just out of it from beginning to end.

Latest rumour regarding any potential replacement for Hamilton at McLaren is that Kovalainen could return to the team (well according to the Daily Mail anyway).

I can't see it happening though, given how useless he was in his two years there previously.

You would think that it would not happen but Whitmarsh gets along very well with Heikki, his problem was with Dennis. Either way Whitmarsh looks like he has really mucked up by not having a plan B, I mean as a supporter of Heikki even I can see that he would be an awful signing for McLaren!

Why don't McLaren put one over on Ferrari and sign Perez? He's ambitious, he wouldn't reject them if they came knocking.

    Plus he can drive.

Second that! Losing Lewis would be nightmare, but not having a decent replacement lined up from before the summer break is just stupid!

I'd imagine they want Button's team-mate to help Button set up the car rather than simply taking all their data for himself is one reason... that said I think Perez would indeed be a good signing for them.

Surely Ferrari would have full power over which team Perez signs for, and I'd imagine they would try and keep him away from other top teams. Perez's form has been inconsistent, but he's incredibly fast at times so at McLaren he could be a real pain in the ass for Ferrari. I wouldn't put it past McLaren to try and get Perez despite his links to a rival young driver academy - didn't they try something like that with Vettel in 2008?

I'm hoping McLaren go for someone like Di Resta - very consistent, but rarely capable of anything special... and British!

Sid Watkins has apparently died. Very sad news if it's true. A hero in F1. :(

I wouldn't see McLaren being stupid enough to sign such a frightfully average driver. Oh, they signed Kovalainen, my error.

I can understand the Ferrari link, but not the Lotus one unless Kimi is on the move?
