A bit partial to audio books myself, but agree on the often grating American voices. The best narrator for me is Tim Pigott-Smith. I just get lost in his voice and he has the ability to make a story come alive. A few favourites are his narration of The Battle Of Britain, Last Of The Few, The Somme, Nineteen Eighty-Four and Endurance. An utterly brilliant voice and much missed.

It’s the flats behind Southampton Central Station. I can see why people think the buildings are ugly, but I think they’ve got style and swagger. No idea what they’re like inside, or how well the building materials have aged (reinforced concrete can start to disintegrate quite quickly). But from the outside they’re very striking.
I used to work with the stuff in the 80’s, when it was getting ripped out of buildings all over the place. Eventually a lot of building owners and managers got wise to the fact that it’s often safer to leave it alone, and make sure it’s encapsulated in some way. Prolonged exposure to loose fibres is what caused an outbreak of asbestos related cancers, mainly among building workers who had put the stuff in, with no protection. I think that town in Canada had an open cast mine, so I’m not sure I would have wanted to live there for any length of time
Yeah I like that place too. Photograph it a lot. And the one opposite too. Very Clockwork Orange. The real beauty in Southampton though is Solent Flour Mill in the docks.
Think Wyndham court is a listed building as well isn't it? Think its supposed to be shaped like a boat from above.
still see a lot of asbestos roofs here in Serbia. Best thing, leave it be. The workers who remove it get nice lungfuls of fibres
My school got relocated for a year as a kid because it was discovered that the place was filled with asbestos, and I'm not that old. Work at a job where we have to be aware that our old stock might well involve the stuff. Remarkable how long it takes for cause to become effect to become action.
Took this from a report in May this year. “5 May 2019 · More than 200 teachers have died in the past 10 years from the effects of being exposed to asbestos. And for each teacher fatality, nine ex-pupils can also be expected to fall victim to the silent killer, a study claims – an average of almost 200 per year.” Also https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-45355886
