wenger is no doubt a great manager but he has not won anything for yonks and this ultimately is his downfall. would i want him to be our next manager as some are suggesting, well the answer is a big NO, i just feel he is a manager who has lost his ambition and hunger to win trophies and is content with finishing anywhere in the top 4, as long as he qualifies for the next champions league rounds he is happy.
I'm a bit late coming to this thread but I've got to laugh. A thread about the Arsenal manager on the Liverpool board and within three minutes of somebody mentioning He Who Must Not Be Named (except in adulation, of course) , the Trafford Light Cavalry comes charging over the hill to defend him. Again.
It is tiresome, let alone boringly childish. As for Wenger a good developer of young talent. A stalwart defender of his players but a poor judge of inter-personal skills. He appears to have lost the knack of finding players who have true leadership/motivational talents. Perhaps he truly believes that any player will respond well to the opportunity of playing and therefore does not require leadership and motivation?
Fuming over the red keane got Classic Keane, Shearer has the nuts to stand up to Woy and Woy just couldn't take it.
Wenger came to the UK with an in depth knowledge of French football & was able to convince a number of the 'Golden Generation' in France, to join him at Les Gooners. That generation is now ancient history & he's not the same grasp of the market that he had when he was a tad younger, & as a direct result. some of his signings in recent years have been ****e. In addition, Wenger pioneered the idea that your youth set up could be full of lads from all corners of the globe, rather than from within a bus ride of your ground. This initially gave him an advantage, but these days after rule changes & other clubs financing their Youth set ups far, far better, it no longer gives him the edge that it used to. Lastly, he's as stubborn as a mule & has refused to accept & deal with, some of the glaring issues with both his side & his style of play at times. They've needed a top class keeper for years & yet he's not bought one. Why? Because everyone was telling him, he needed one..............that sums up the prime issue with Wenger.........his huuuuuuuggggeeeee ego.
He also inherited a very very good defence. As of yet, he as not shown the same eye for talent when picking up defenders
A bit of a myth that one mate tbh. As whilst he did indeed inherit a fine back line, that helped him win the double in his 2nd season. He then went on to replace all of them as they retired & the 'invincibles' back 5 were all Wengers players
By that theory, Barcelona have an awesome defence too! Keown was still part of that team although he only played thirteen times Edit: Most used players in a 442: Lehmann Lauren Toure Campbell Cole Viera Silva Ljungberg Pires Bergkamp Henry Fair enough though
