I'd love to see Arsenal fans get along on this board. It doesn't do us any favours to be bitching at each other. I do find some of the more negative opinions over the top, but I also see the point they are making (sometimes) and I share the frustrations. What irks me is when people try and put words into other's mouths and then slate them for something they haven't even said, that to me just seems to be deliberately trying to start a spat. The reality on here is that most people call it as they see it and there are degrees of opinion either to either side, there isn't a 'rose tinted brigade' or a group of 'doom mongers' but there are one or two who want to try and create that divide.
It does seem such a shame that we have such waves of negativity, and occasionally such glee shown when we perform poorly, as if posters are just really happy to prove wrong posters [they believe] are in the 'rose tinted' brigade. Personally I really admire some of the positive posters on the board, as being such a negative person myself, it's pleasing to hear some of the positive things about Arsenal currently (and lets be fair, there are many), rather than hear that x should never play for us, x is a bag of **** and we will never, ever win anything. Even if some of those things are grounded in truth... I also suppose it's easier to say everything is awful and that we are terrible, because if we lose then you're right, but if we win then you're happy coz we won.
It's quite interesting how quiet this board goes when we win. I think that has more to do with the fact that it's more attention grabbing to be angry and moan than it is to say well done when we've played well. If you look at the threads where somebody is moaning, they attract more comments than the positive ones. I'm not singling any posters out in particular I just think this is the dynamic of how these type of forums work, shout and rant and people naturally want to have their say, whether they agree or disagree with you. Look at Talksport Radio, they know that Arsenal fans have some of the most critical supporters, so they play on it and broadcast negative stories about Arsenal because they know people will phone in or click on their website. My opinion is that there are much more positive things happening at Arsenal than there are negative. I'm not blind to the problems and areas that need addressing, in fact most of my comments actually highlight these things, but because I am a more positive supporter, it naturally attracts the more negative supporters who want to make a point of disagreeing with it.
Over the last week the majority of posts on this forum have been to do with other members of the forum rather than Arsenal. No wonder it's dying a death.
Any stats? For example, how many posts were posted on the Arsenal board after the Villa win? And how many after the Dortmund loss?
I like Arsene, love the style of play that Arsenal try to achieve. Wonder what you think of this piece here where the author suggests he's old fashioned and puts too much pressure on his players - probably why there are so many injuries...
I just read one of the first few lines where he says "Wenger doggedly refuses to turn away from the mantra on which he has based his reputation... referred to as pace and power, and means that his teams practise and train the way they play their matches.." Pace and power? He clearly hasn't watched Arsenal for a good long while so his entire point of view is worthless. Actually, you can't have watched us for a good long while either if you like the style of football we're playing
I was rolling my eyes when I read that too and stopped reading straight after. The man obviously hasn't got a clue how Arsenal play nowadays. This kind of play was in Wenger's early tenure, of the late 90s/early 2000s. Our current team and the team of yesteryear are like chalk and cheese.
Dammit... I got suckered I don't know why you'd go about advertising a fundamentally uninformed and useless blog though...?
Seeing as there has been a lot of criticism thrown at Wenger lately we should probably acknowledge the fact he is arguably the 'best in the World' when it comes to coaching centre forwards. When Thierry Henry came to Arsenal he was a young, athletic winger but lacked any kind of subtlety to his game. In fact Thierry was the epitome of 'raw'. Wenger could see that down the middle he could develop and gave him the confidence and self belief to do so. Simular story with RVP. He was a technically gifted but extremely inconsistent AMF/Winger with a bad attitude and poor goalscoring record. Again Wenger moved him forward and gave him the belief and the right coaching to turn him into a World Class centre forward. Simular story with Anelka. In fact Wenger even got Adebayor scoring big numbers. This is why I was pleased when we signed Danny Wellbeck. Because for me all the potential is there. Wenger is just the right kind of coach that can raise his confidence and improve his all round attacking game. I can see big things for Wellbeck at Arsenal. For all his faults Wenger sure has a great understanding of what it takes to coach and develop a centre forward.
OOOft, damn it. Thought ye might like to read something other than the Sun... I've seen Arsenal play many times, coming far Glasgow its not as easy to go every week - I'm not the writer of that blog. Last time I saw Arsenal was at Blackburn when Terry Henry was playing - HE IS A LEGEND... Maybe Wellbeck will turn out to emulate Thierry - remember he toiled at Juve before he became a Gunner...
