Well part of the problem was the wage bill. The squad has been trimmed down now though so that should help.

But yeah does seem a bit weird.

I think 'charges' in that sentence simply means a write off of player book value when you release them for nothing. So nothing dodgy at all....

That's already covered under the amortisation charges, I believe. Might be a separate factor if anyone was paid off prematurely, though.
Was anyone paid £10m to go last season and £5.5m in the previous one, though?

I don't see how the wage bill is going to get any better when you have a new signing like Ozil on a big wage, and if we're looking to buy more super quality players, their wage bill will be high as well, so it makes no difference.

We've got rid of a fair amount of people and only brought 3 in. One obviously is on big wages (probably around 140-160k max), Flamini on 75k (sounds too much to me) Sinogo would be on low wages.

I thought Flamini was on like 40k a week. According to the news articles i read at the time anyway.

I did come across that once but i've repeatedly come across 75k too. If it's 40k then its good business.

In all truth none of us knows how much any of our players earn.It is just speculation

But if we're going to be signing more players, that free wage bill we've offloaded is just going to be taken up again, so I don't think we can look at wages and say the next financial results are going to be better because of less wages, that's not going to last long. There needs to be some other profit generating areas other than getting rid of player wages (which is very short term and over by the next transfer window) and selling key players.

You can look at the reported wages that left this summer:
    Squillaci (60)
    Djourou (50)
    Chamakh (80)
    Arshavin (80)
    Gervinho (40)
    Denilson (60)

And say that in theory the club had shed over 350k just on those players - plus releasing a load of others.
Ozil on 140 & Flamini on say 60 for arguments sake leaves 150, equating to 7.8m over a year. That is substantial.
