Exactly .. but when you use Wigan as a reason why we can't use other clubs as barometers for playing well PISKIE says its extreme
Half Full ... come on now, get with the program After all the posturing by some when people claimed we were in a crisis at the beginning of the season, for the manager himself, the great Arsene, to admit that we were in a mini crisis just recently, I just wanted those involved to admit we WERE in a crisis. It is simple. No argument needs to come from this. A simple "yes, we were in crisis at the beginning of the season" would suffice and the thread ends. I can admit I am wrong and have done numerous times on the board ... but why can't others ???
The point in particular there was that comparing Wigan to Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle wasn't a like for like analogy. The point here is that the term crisis is more applicable to Wigan than it is Arsenal.
And by the way, how is this a WUM thread ? Whats the wind up ? People need to be men and admit they are wrong. I have tried to tie PISKIE down to answer directly but the slippery eel is having none of it. There are no personal attacks and it's light hearted
Whether the club is in crisis is so subjective that arguments both for and against have merit and there's the rub my new found friend. You knew full well that Herr Piskenfuhrer would not agree with you and that subsequently the thread would descend into a fight. You little minx you!!!
Quite the opposite actually, my nemesis maximus. We are often told that we don' know the reasons behind things and until the club make a statement etc etc, we can't comment. Well, Wenger has admitted to a mini crisis so I thought that little nugget would finally convince the deniers of the crisis that .... we had been in crisis. Alas .. when some people see a spade ... they call it a packet of crisps
With regards the use of the word 'crisis', it is as subjective when Wenger uses it as it is when used by you or I. ...and the only difference between crisis & crisps is the letter p replacing the i - could have been a typo?
Mini Crisis, rough patch, bad run, loss of form. Anyone of those terms would described that period. None of them describe a 'full blown crisis' though. It's semantics really. But 7-1 looks nothing like a crisis to me
My KY jelly smothered eely friend, I give up. But at least I tried. Its been like getting Rabbi Shelomo to have a Pork Burger with side order of smoked ham fries and cheese, with a wild boar shake to wash it down !!
One swallow does not make a summer. I'm sure you've heard of that Piskie. Great result and I wish this was the start of a run of a dozen winning games in the EPL but until we approach that, we are still in some form of a crisis because in 2012 so far, we have 4 points out of 5 games.
I still don't think you can call it a crisis. We are in 4th place, still in the CL and FA Cup - that basicaly puts us in a similar position to the last few seasons. The difference is usualy we arev pushing for the top spot but come short and finish 3rd/4th but this season we are having to push to keep the 3/4 spot rather than the top spot. For this season thats fine - very poor start and after losing some key players we have done alright to be where we are. We are not in nearly as poor a position as people would have you believe. I have said since the start of the season i am fully confident that AW will get us CL football once again and i still stand by this comment. I see no reason why we cannot. Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are our main competition for the 4th spot (i still see spurs collapsing and joining this group) and none of them are setting the world alight either. Sagna heading back into the team and Gervinho back from ACON soon enough will give us another boost to the team and i'm sure we will finish in a similar position to previous seasons only the grumpy moaners will be a little louder. Honestly how do you live your day to day lives being so pessimistic! This season has actualy been pretty exciting - no idea what is going to happen but laced with the class of Henry, RVP's best season yet and some new faces that are lovely additions to the squad. I am enjoying watching Arsenal despite our league position and am confident the team i support can pull some results out and finish well.
I'm not quite sure of the implications of admitting we are in a crisis or not. I don't see what difference it makes really. Yes it may lead to panic sackings or panic buyings, but I don't think having a crisis means that anyone has done anything wrong. This is the general connection that those on the negative side of the argument make, and I still say that the board and manager could have done everything right and still been in this crisis. Not saying they have, but perfection =/= winning in the real world. Life's a bitch.
