If Wigan get through to the group stages of the Europa League they are going to have an awful lot of matches to play next season.
Well in the NHL ice hockey playoffs yesterday evening, with the best of 7 game series tied 3-3, underdogs Toronto Maple Leafs were 4-1 up against the Boston Bruins in the 7th game with only 10 mins of 3rd period to play and yet they managed to concede 3 goals, making the score tied 4-4 in regular time and losing 5-4 in sudden death overtime. Major, major choke, which Toronto teams are well known for. So it can happen, but definitely not for Wigan this evening.
I think they'l lose Martinez in the summer. He's been linked even with Real Madrid in the past couple of weeks
Yes, indeed, Wenger obviously didn't review Wigan's free kick play book with Maloney taking the shot.
I was watching that and was laughing. still doesnt beat the Boston choke of 2011, being 3-0 up in the series and then 3-0 up in the game 7 and still losing to the Flyers. Wigan will play at least 54 games next season, 46 NPC, 6 EC and 2 cup games.
I don't usually have much interest in NHL games, but this one was exciting. So Boston only just escaped another choke as they were 3-1 up in this series.
Used to watch he Bruins, Red Socks & Celtics when i lived in New England in the early 90's, Bruins were really **** back then!
As an ex-pat with dual citizenship, really not very patriotic of me to not follow the NHL, although with the ex-R's gang now onboard at Toronto FC (Nelsen, Ephraim, Ben Haim), I have started following their games and also a few Vancouver Whitecaps where Nigel Reo-Coker really excels and bosses their midfield - he only turned 29 today, we should have grabbed him before he moved to MLS.
? didn't the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011? I was working in Toronto at the time, so I hope this is true, otherwise the dementia really is setting in, it was wall to wall hockey. Watched a bit of it in the biggest sports bar I've ever been in, hundreds of screens including a two storey tall one. Series heated up after the Bruins started getting physical in game 3 or 4, Canucks lost their heads big time and it ended in a riot in Vancouver as they lost the series. Anyway, I don't know the way the competition works, but how could they have won if they choked in the play off?
I don't follow NHL, but probably that was the 2010-11 season when they won the Stanley Cup, that would have ended in May/June 2011. Yes, heres the scoop:- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Bruins I believe as Flyer indicated they choked in the 2011-12 season, and almost choked this 2012-13 season after being 3-1 in games up against Toronto Maple Leafs, but eventually won 4-3 in best of 7 games with that last gasp effort.
Cheers, nice that we can all be right in some way or another, and I can slightly reassured regarding my sanity. Did I remember to lock the car?
Too bad Man City didn't put more of a dent in Reading's GD (at least Dzeko got a late goal to make it 2-0) so we could perhaps secure 19th place if we beat Liverpool and they lose at West Ham in the final games.
