Might be good as a back up striker but hope you can pull it off and get Diego Costa! He seems more like the real deal.

Pleeease no. For me Remy will be the final straw - I will join the Wenger out brigade if this is his solution to our striker issues.

He's soo far from the required level it's a joke.

Wenger said he didn't even know Remy was at the stadium. Anyway some Spanish journo said we activated the Vela but back clause.

Well Vela for 4 Million Euro's that's a good bit of business but.. I just REALLY dont want more 'decent-but-not-good-enough-for-the-top-level' signings. For me Remy would indicate we have NO intention of really pushing for a title run.

Remy is worse than Giroud. No thanks. I'd take Vela, he'd be a good option on the wing. Bender, Vela*, Top Striker, Sagna re-sign/new RB, New GK* will be a good window.
Ones with a * should be really cheap ones

Remy or Vela would say quite clearly that we are happy as we are and not determined to push on .

    Agreed.

Let's hope the Costa rumours have some substance.

Diego Costa is a ****ing idiot if he goes to Chelski, why leave Madrid for Chelski? Would make no sense, other than only doing it for the $$$.

It is funny we AGAIN find ourselves in a situation where 2-3 TOP players would turn this squad into a real contender.

But the questions are 1. Will we sign the required standard? and 2. Can we keep our best players?..

If the answer is yes to both of those we will be laughing.

The only top top player we could lose with an impact on our squad this season is Sagna, hopefully we manage to keep him, though I doubt we will, who knows, maybe an FA Cup win and the feel good factor will convince him to sign the contract.

As for Remy, I'm probably the only guy that wouldn't mind buying him, he reminds me of Henry, :D.

I think the words from Wenger's mouth indicate a pretty strong NO.

He has already said we don't need much of a reinforcement in quality to compete, and has already publicly used the Injuries excuse like every season (do something about the squad depth then... nah you won't have the 'luck' excuse then )

I'm really done with him. I was at the same mental state as the current Wenger apologists 2 years ago, but you have to learn eventually. I found the post from Cym in the other thread that "he really needs to deliver next season though" hilarious. Yep, we really mean it this time... no kidding around.

The man is too proud of his "philosophy" to do Arsenal any good, as we'll need to break from it to make the next leap in quality.

I think the league can only get tougher next season, so we'll need to improve just to secure fourth let alone move up. Our manager indicating he's proud of 4th place doesn't exactly send the best message for a team that wants to reach the top.

    Meh.

The fact that Wenger tried to sign Suarez last summer, made a bid for Lars Bender and was heavily linked with Draxler in January tells you that we're in for two or three top quality players. Pulling off the signings is as we know down to a multitude of factors, but I think you're naive to think Wenger won't try.

Also the injuries weren't used as an excuse, anybody could tell that we were weakened when we lost Walcott, Ramsey, Ozil and Wilshere at the same time, it had an obvious and tangible effect on our results.

Wenger has the view that the current squad is capable of winning the league.
He may now realise that we need another striker hence the Remy/Vela rumours and of course Bendtner is off, plus if Sagna and TV5 leave we'll need replacements for them, but otherwise I don't see a massive Summer for us in the transfer market.
I have a funny feeling that we have a deal in place for Draxler, so, Vela/Remy and Draxler in for Bendtner would be a huge squad upgrade, but finding a replacement for Sagna won't be easy....

I have to disagree with him, whilst we might have a first XI capable, we don't have the depth to win the league.

If Sagna and TV go then we definitely need to buy a defender. My hope is that they both stay though.

This squad + Mandzukic and Bender and then we could be capable of winning the league.

If he thought the squad wasn't strong enough surely he would have done more in January ?
We all know we got ****ed with injuries and assuming Jack, Theo and Ox return fully healthy we don't need too many additions.

But as I said (somewhere ?) starting the Summer by losing Sagna and Bendtner (and maybe TV5), we already need to buy 3 players to replace those we're losing....

All depends who was available in Jan though. I wouldn't have wanted to see us sign an average striker in Jan if it meant we wouldn't go for a top quality one this summer.

I agree to a point, but in Jan we were better placed than we have been for a while and a single quality striker could have won us the league - of course injuries to the midfield hurt in the Spring but as it stands we're only going to finish 7 points or thereabouts short, a top striker could have broken down Man Utd, Everton and Swansea at home and Stoke away and there's the 9 points that would have won us the league.

I believe everyone has their price, even though he's been one of the biggest busts in the history of busts, Chelsea waved their Ruples in Liverpools face and got Torres in a January, of course they overpaid but if Wenger had offered an enhanced price for a target (and I don't mean break the bank with arrogance and disregard for money) that player might just have made the difference....

We didn't lose the league because of a striker, or a lack of one. We lost the league because we couldn't win the midfield against the top teams without Ramsey, Ozil, and Wilshere.

3 out of Ox-Cazorla-Flamini-Arteta aren't going to win a midfield battle against any top 5 teams in the PL. We could have had Ronaldo, or Messi and it wouldn't have made a damn bit of difference.
