From Wenger: "It does not look aggressive, he was smiling." "Theo has a knee problem, we don't know if it is a stretched ligament or just a kick." (Hopefully the latter)
Have to say that in any other country in the world Monreal would have got a penalty for that charge, and it would in all probability been a red card for Walker as well. While that shoulder to shoulder stuff is fine when it is a loose ball, Monreal was completely in possession and Walker makes no attempt to play the ball. If you are a young player reading this don't try that yourself, you will be heading for an early bath.
Are you talking about the one against Monreal or the one against Walker ? Personally I thought both were not pens and the ref called it right.
Push on Monreal was never a pen. Monreal on walker was an indirect free kick for obstruction in my opinion.
who actually gives a sh1t ? have a drink for christs sake ...and no i dont mean horlicks . View attachment 28580
Have to disagree with you, I don't agree it was a penalty to Monreal, thought the contact was minimal. Just my opinion
Cant put your shoulder on a player in possession other than incidental contact. That is why the one the other end was not a penalty, Walker did not have possession. If it was that easy to dispossess someone in the box, just drop your shoulder and knock 'em over every time, **** the ball. You can go on about it being a contact sport all you like, but that is why Walker is a dreadful full back for England. I was aware that all the talk on the TV and everywhere was that it was not a penalty, I was just making people aware that despite all the crap, from a referee's point of view, it was a nailed on 100% penalty. No contact with the ball, no attempt to win the ball, and the attacker 100% in control of the ball, but as I say only in the PL does it go like that, anywhere else, easy decision. Edit: This is IMO one of the reasons we (and Scotland, Ireland and Wales) have so much trouble competing internationally. We don't play football by the FIFA rules domestically. When we then have to play internationals, we are all at sea. We have no skilled players because it is OK to knock them over (as long as you do it with your shoulder), our defenders don't know how to defend properly, and our attackers cant score without fouling. Makes good entertainment though, even if it makes referees so focal to the results. If they are calling games based on an artificial set of rules, how can you criticise any decision they make? Who the **** knows what the rules are, because they are not the FIFA rules.
Walcott getting a little niggle is a good thing in the end. There's no way that with only a recently returned Podolski as a striker that Wenger can afford to NOT go out and buy a striker. Sometimes he needs such a kick up the backside to bring in quality.
Unfortunately I missed the game today due to "domestic" duties, but I'll look forward to watching it tonight on Sky+.
