I've still no idea why they let both him and VDV go then replaced them with average players (bar Dembele)

A prime example of what Spurs are missing can be seen in the match against Liverpool at WHL in September 2011.
Liverpool were chasing shadows from the 1st minute and had no answer to the high work rate provided by the Spurs midfield. They ended up losing 4-0 and had 9 men on the pitch.

Modric refused to stay and VDV actually slowed things down at times. I think that Moutinho was really wanted but it turned out that there was a serious issue re 3rd party ownership which put paid to that as a deal.

I think our biggest losses have been Kaboul and BAE. Kaboul has really grown into a good CB and BAE allows Bale to play better (in my opinion).

I think that we'll only get something from the game if

    a) we decide to attack the whole game
    AND
    b) Arsenal screw up

With OXO, Theo, and Shezza all back, and Rosicky back in training, that's good for us, and could start to turn things around and make us better our form, (hopefully).

But we have tricky games, Spurs, Villa (away) and Everton (away).

That was the best I've seen Spurs play. It was an absolute masterclass. Never seen Liverpool torn apart like that.

If Dembele is fit I'm tempted to go for the same

Kaboul the biggest loss IMO. No offence but G*llas cannot defend. Caulker is a promising defender but when you have clowns like G*llas alongside you it doesn't help. Kaboul & Caulker as a pairing will be good IMO.

Not all the pointless friendlies have been completed yet but so far no injuries to any of our players.

    Chensey - Rested

    Sagna - Rested
    Per - Full 90
    Kos - Full 90
TV - Did not get on the pitch for Belgium

    Arteta - Rested
    Wilshere - 30 minutes
Cazorla - Did not start for Spain, but the game is still ongoing

    Walcott - Rested
    Giroud - 60 Minutes
Podolski - Did not get on the pitch for Germany

So only Per and Kos played the full games in these international friendlies.

That's good. The travelling is still annoying!! It'll take at least til Saturday to recover. Bring on the new higher-oxygen planes!

Cazorla did not even get on the pitch in the end. Travelled all the way to Panama to be an unused sub. <doh>

Still, good for us, but as Bonstar says, the travelling is annoying.

I think every premier league game is tricky and that is why we want our best players fully available. The return of these players on Saturday can only be a boost and, hopefully, should kick-start this season -no better game than vs Spurs at home to do that.

    Afternoon lads.

V excited for this game, as usual. At the same time, I'm also very nervous and don't have a great of optimism.<laugh>

It's a shame that we've got the injury list that we have. It would have been nice to see the new signings from both sides up against one another, as well as just how much the fixture might have differed in light of the players we both lost during the summer.

However, it doesn't look like that is to be. we're certainly v short, not sure how you guys are fixed? Although not a good thing for us, it's nice to see Wilshere back again. The game has been without him for far too long. - Same goes for Sagna too <ok>

I think the result will depend on how much we help ourselves; something that we don't appear to be doing much of at the moment.

As someone else quite rightly pointed out, if we start Dempsey, well... it might as well be 11 against 10.
If we go with this 4231 shape that AVB persists with (without good enough/correct type of players for it), you will beat us comfortably, IMO. We just can't defend as a unit.
However, If we actually attack you and switch up to last seasons 442 (or 4411 depending on how pedantic you want to be), then we might actually be able to pull off a result, such as a draw. I think the only way we can do this, is by playing "gung ho".

Something's got to change in our squad as we've got big midfield creativity problems. The likes of Cazola and Wilshere will just take the piss if we're not careful.

I've said 2-2 on our board as both sides will be up for it, but that's only if we play to our strengths like we did against Maribor. if we continue as we have been in the league, it could well be over at half time.

    <ok>
