Even I admitted that Walcott was bad tonight, but ****ing hell do you ever stfu about it? Every ****ing game...
"Retrospectively" it's a good game, but it could have become a complete nightmare right until Wilshere scored. I could see us dominating and then Michu snatching a goal from counter attack. We absolutely should have went ahead earlier in the 2nd half. Some of those missed chances were laughable.
We deserved our win tonight. First half we were slow, but the effort we put in the 2nd half was rewarded with the goal we deserved. I think the lads deserve some credit for the effort and perseverance they put in
I couldn't see them snatching a goal on the counter, we cleared up everything at the back very well and very quickly in that second half. They never looked like they where going to get a goal. They had one shot that was saved and it was going wide anyway, otherwise they didn't look likely to score at all.
They never looked like they were going to get a goal in their 2-0 win. It was a very similar situation, they closed up in the initial stages of the 2nd half and we had a period where we constantly were on their side. Michu's goal came from nowhere, a complete non-chance.
We created loads of chances and stopped them creating anything. That almost says it all. It was a great performance from everyone apart from Giroud/Walcott who should have done better with the chances they had. Way more positives than negatives in this game. You could tell in the interview at the end how appreciative Vermaelen was of the midfielders in front of him. They protected our defense very well.
Wilshere was fantastic today, probably the most complete performance i've seen him have for us (apart from the first leg against barca 2 years ago). He was almost perfect as his passing stats showed 47 passes made 45 of them were completed. And then to cap it off the winner at the end. But it may in some sense cover up the fact that we are still missing a clinical striker up front, who knows maybe wenger will get another striker in before january finishes but giroud and walcott just aren't doing it at the moment walcott was especially wasteful, so many chances for him and giroud had a few great chances aswel but unless we are creating 3 or 4 clearcut chances a half we aren't going to score goals. Maybe giroud will click and go on a run but right now we need someone to score consistently. It was good to see diaby again and he is improving with every game and i thought that gibbs did very well tonight, walcott's pace was always a problem but his decision making was in question throughout the whole game and cazorla became much more influential in the second half. Good to get through to the next round.
Our finishing was absolutely horrendous, but we still won. Brighton here we come. Maybe Wenger can swap out the dour coat for a lime green tuxedo? Have the team show up in a stretch Hummer rather than the bus.
Site will be slow tonight, because Mick (Owner of the site) is going to be upgrading the server. So that's why it will be slow if anyone is wondering.
