I blame Wenger for that. He knows his players. Even Giroud himself has been crying for help, but Wenger still does nothing.
Would anyone play Debuchy against Stoke to deal with their ex-Barca wingers? Personally I'd play Bellerin, but just wondering...
So it's time for some good ole club action again with the international break over......Though I'm not really looking forward to club football as I was one month ago, our lack of transfer activity and ambition, coupled with the constant injury circus, has put a damper on the season. Can anyone really be happy or positive to knowing all you're going to do is fight for 4th spot? It'd be nice if I could delude myself into thinking we are title challengers, but you know sometimes you can't even bullshit yourself when the obvious is so clear. No doubt though, if we beat Stoke at home, (our first home win), Wenger will be like everything is fine you see, why need signings, and then some fans will be like, see? We are challengers.
I genuinely would love to know though, how some people think we are title challengers. We came third last year, and have only made one signing, a goalkeeper, while our rivals, some of whom were better than us last year and finished above us, have gotten even stronger thanks to their signings like City. Yet, we're magically contenders? It don't even make logical sense, then again, I guess you do have to throw logic out the window. . After all, Wenger has gone more than a decade without a league win, yet we're supposed to believe he still has it and can take us to the top, see? Perfect logical sense, because 10 years after all, is not enough time to prove whether someone is capable or not.
Looking forward to some real football starting up again. The international break is rubbish! Stoke have made some good additions to their squad and look a decent team these days, it won't be a walk in the park. But I do expect us to have too much for them and get the 3 points. I'm mainly just looking forward to watching Arsenal play rather than ****ty England
Yeah ok, I'll bite... I imagine people thought we might be challengers for a number of reasons: 1 - We took a while to get going last season but ended up on an amazing run culminating in the FA Cup. Carry that form forward and why couldn't we challenge? 2 - We had a successful pre season and beat Chelsea at Wembley. 3 - We addressed an area of the team which people have bemoaned for years in signing Petr Cech, something nobody was upset at (bar Chelsea fans). So we strengthened a well performing team with an incredible player. 4 - We appeared to have overcome our mental hoodoo by finally beating some of the top sides. It remains to be seen how everyone does this season. City have started brilliantly but they did that last season and tailed off. United have won games but haven't looked at all convincing whilst Chelsea have just looked bullcr*p. I still think we have a squad which can do extremely well but, as everyone has accepted, we're an injury away from collapse in two key positions.
And they expected major signings, more than 1, that was the main thing. That's what would have completed the deal and made us official challengers. And we didn't do that, again, showing an obvious lack of ambition. That was one of the main criterias they attached. And that's why many who did think we could have been challengers, now thing we definitely are not, because we didn't make the signings. We're basically the same squad plus 1, the same squad that came third, not even second. Again, there is no logic to believing a team that came third, and didn't make major improvements, can suddenly come first ahead of teams already better than us, and who have actually made improvements. Though I know many fans have thrown logic out the window to try and defend Wenger, lol.
Just give it till November, and everyone will finally be admitting we are not challengers, just like last year when it was obvious we weren't, but people kept wanting to cling onto thinking we are, until November-December. Same is gonna happen this season, and Ill be here to tell you i told you so, for the millionth time. And then for the millionth time Ill be told give it another summer-season with Wenger.
I regard Cech as a major improvement. Also, were you saying I told you say when we won back to back FA Cups? As I rather enjoyed winning them.
Btw, my question was asked for the present, why NOW are we still challengers, not before the season started, with one of the main hinges on new signings added to everything you said. Why NOW, with the same squad which wasn't good enough last year and the year before etc, are we suddenly good enough now though we didn't improve in the squad, when better teams than us have?
We needed outfield improvements, not just one player. And the first 4 games have even shown how much more improvement we needed outfield, not just in GK alone. It's so obvious we needed more improvements, why not just say that, you regard Cech as a major improvement, guess what? We all do, but it's still not enough, and we need more, why can't you add that part? Do we have to cover all the cracks?
Is anyone still saying that? I think we'll do a bit better than you are anticipating and challenge harder than previously but still think we'll come up short. Would be surprised if you found many people who think we'd win the league now.
Context, in the GRAND CONTEXT we have not made the major improvements to make us challengers. Get it? You keep clutching to your straws, Ill stick to the reality. You still haven't given a logical reason why we are currently challengers.
So Pete, here is the next Q then, is it justifiable, that we are not proper contenders? Does Wenger have a leg to stand on for making us short AGAIN? When will enough be enough and it's no longer ok to just make us 4th or 3rd best? Weren't we told that once money is available, that we would properly compete? Or has it become acceptable and good enough to just come up 4th and 3rd occasionally. As for the challenge part, what do you base that on, that we will challenge better than I anticipate? In 4 games we have won 2, we haven't manage to score at home, we have scored 3 goals only, 2 of them own goals. So what part of that shows we will challenger better than before? Again, no logic, just rhetoric.
I guess I'm just supposed to believe we will challenge better than before, I'm just supposed to have faith we will......Even though there is nothing to indicate or point to that. I'm sorry, but I gave up blind faith in this club under Wenger a long long time ago after he consistently made us underachieve. Ill start believing when we replace him with a new world class manager. With Wenger now, you know what you get, there is nothing to hope or believe in.....The only thing I hope in is that he leaves sooner rather than later.
No I don't get it. You said we've made no major improvement. I said we had, with Cech. You then say we all think he's a major improvement. That baffling contradiction aside the fact we haven't filled other positions is neither here nor there, we have improved the team. To answer you third post in a row (and seriously, you have to give people a chance to reply man...) I don't think we'll win the league. I thought you were asking why people thought we might be challengers at the start of the season so gave you some reasons. I also said I doubt any would think the same now. Oh, and I think we'll be top four because we have the same decent team from last season with a strong addition. I don't think we're dire after a few poor performances. Not rocket science. * edit fourth post in a row. Some of us have jobs man, either give it a few minutes or edit your initial post! **edit edit I also think we'll beat Stoke, to go back to the initial thread
