Wanted to post my thoughts on Coquelin earlier but forgot. Keep in mind this was an easy game so even an excellent match by him wouldn't mean much, though there are some patterns that repeat with him. I agree that he isn't much better at defending than our more naturally offensive midfielders. But compared to them he doesn't even offer anything to compensate for that. He is average in every aspect of his game, and shouldn't expect to be more than a squad player IMO. (6th choice in our midfield?) His most glaring flaw is how static he is when we are in possession. He doesn't open up like the rest of our midfielders, and this can be dangerous when players need to get the ball off them when pressured. His level of effort when the opposition team is in possession is good though. (edit: as an example Jenkinson struggled quite often today with lack of options to pass to. Coquelin was just standing there even when he was covered by 2 players.)
I agree. Although I would say he's better than 'average' as he is technically fairly accomplished and quite athletic. But for me it's the exact same problem we faced with Denilson. He's not physical or defensively minded enough to play as a DM and does'nt quite have the quality to play as a playmaker. Can I really see him forcing his way ahead Wilshere,Carzorla, Chamberlain, Rosicky, Arteta or Diaby? No. For me he's destined for a middle table club or back to the French League.
Carzorla on the other hand today was ****ing fantastic. Workrate, speed, skill and vision. Truely a magnificent signing.
I don't think anyone could disagree with you there. He's a truly world class player, and an excellent team player too.
You guys might win the league if you keep on playing like that this season, easier said than done. I think you can win the league, I hope so as you're my favorite "big four" club . Arsenal are a top club, they do things the right way.
Thanks for the positive comments and energy, but we won't win the league. Hang on, actually we might, with the players we've got to return from injury (Wilshere, Diaby, Sagna, Rosicky), we can only get stronger. Wow, who would have thought it, we sell Van persie, and somehow end up better, and realistic title contenders. I didn't see it coming.
