What about RVP's playing record? I would not risk in games where we can manage without him. How will you feel when he gets crocked again playing too often?

    No you're wrong.
My logic is that we have almost qualified from the CL group, barring a disaster we should qualify. We have two games as a buffer zone to do so.

The same principles do not apply to the Premier League, where each game carries significant weight, there is no buffer zone.

Therefore it was better to rest RVP for the Marseille game as oppose to the WBA game <ok>

Obviously he needed it. I trust the informed decision made by the player, manager, trainer, physio etc. What makes someone sitting in an armchair at home more qualified than the professionals?

It doesn't, but some people like to think they know better.

I hope RVP scores on Saturday - that will put this silly argument to bed once and for all.

RVP has a horrific injury record and we have absolutely no cutting edge without him.

It's insane to not have another top Class striker in our squad, we are completely relying on a player that has NEVER made it through a whole season.

Ok let's dissect this bit by bit:

-I'm not assuming that Wenger doesn't make mistakes, I'm saying that resting RVP wasn't one.
-RVP scoring on the weekend would prove that it was right to rest him for the Marseille game.
-There has been no damage done, we are top of the group. in great contention to qualify and with 2 games to do so.
-As just mentioned we are top and in prime position to finish there.
-It's not blindly accepting it's understanding that he knows his team and players better than you or I.

    Thank you
    <ok>

    <doh>

Wenger will make a decision on a player based on how he is at that moment,
not based on some meaningless formula that Jayram has invented.

He missed a chance that he would usually of scored, that suggests he could have been tired.
He needed resting, you don't schedule in a rest for a future date, you do it when they need rest.
As it happened the Marseille game was the right time to do it.
Fortunately - I trust Wenger's judgement more than yours <ok>

Because of his history and importance. No point in taking the risk.

Ergo - it was right to leave him out of the Marseille game

I thought you wanted to leave it?

He wasn't fully fit to play, he was tired and needed resting.

Wenger didn't admit it was a mistake, he said 'It was a gamble, you could say it didn't come off'
If Ramsey or Gervinho had taken their chances, you could say it did come off -
once Wenger has made his decisions, it's up to the players he's picked to perform.

Like I said, you don't schedule in a rest for a future date, you do it when the player needs it.
Marseille was a game that he could be afforded to be rested in as we have two more to qualify.
It's more important that he's fit and rested for the WBA game.

why have a squad if you are going to play your 'best' 11 every match?

Exactly, it's nonsensical. They would end up totally fatigued and eventually injured.
The reason we've collapsed in previous seasons is because we've had a light squad,
and have suffered injuries from overplaying our key players.

RVP is too important to this team to be risked when he is tired.
He said he was tired, Wenger said he was tired, Marseille was a game he could afforded to be rested in
and so the right decision was taken, it was a gamble, but less of a gamble than risking him getting injured.

Because he's the most important one?

Exactly. Had van Persie played, and picked up an injury, people would be saying "why was he played when his injury record is so bad and he would have been fatigued from the weekend."

    You just can't win.

You can bet that Jayram would be the first one complaining that Wenger had made a mistake in playing him if that were the scenario.
