Focus on a league we can't win and a domestic cup that doesn't carry us anywhere? While Chelsea and Man City have their billions and Man Utd continue to be a commercial juggernaut we should be trying our absolute best in Europe and pray to God that if we don't make it out of the groups we can fall back on the Europa League, otherwise we might end up saying goodbye to Champions League football altogether in a couple of years. I can never understand why why some fans have this attitude.
This also all comes down to a lack of improvement during the summer, you look at our bench today and we are bare thin. and yet still some people will continue to cling onto supporting Wenger, can't get my head around that.
Winning the EL will gain you CL football, might be your only chance with the way English clubs are performing #italyaregaining
When did you become such a pussy? Or you are just talking ****, I can't ever remember anyone on here calling us 'elite'. Even that deluded moron Toldeo Trumpton.
Well, Roma last tonight as well. Just have to hope Juve don't go too far as they are Italy's only hope.
Toledo, lol, would have been good in a twisted way to have him here now, would love to see what positive spin job he would come up with now.
Unfortunately we can't all be in a 1 team league, in a large footballing country, with the choice of any player of said nationality wanting to play for us. Or in the case of Madrid or barca, a 2 team league, one of which is paid for by the gov and the other by a huge semi country. However, we still shouldn't lose to a team from a ****ty bankrupt country...
Toledo would be like back in the day before Wenger we were barely playing in Europe, let alone the UCL, he brought us UCL football, and brought it to us 18 years in a row, so we should be grateful! Every year he gets us top 4 while being overmatched in money and resources, and he still pulls it off, it's just a privilege to be in the UCL. Wenger knows best.
Onto the actual match itself, it really was the same old, same old. Frankly, why we made changes to half our team when this was a must win game is beyond me, but the one major change that should never have happened was Ospina in for Cech. A totally unwelcome and unnecessary swap. I've mentioned my concern with his lack of height before, as well as his culpability to dropping high balls. I had an inkling it would cost us tonight and, well, it did. It is deeply concerning that we keep getting outwitted by novices or managers that are far less experienced that our 'top class' manager. No cohesion at the back, keep taking too many touches on the ball when in possession, slow and cumbersome. We're not doing enough to actually penetrate defences. We are too slow when we have the ball at our feet and Wenger did absolutely nothing to switch it up, he just thought that our players were better than their therefore we would end up winning the match. If this was a once-off I could understand it not being a major mismanagement issue, but it has happened on numerous occasions throughout the last 10 years. How many times have we looked like conceding from a set-piece? How many times have we been guilty of being exposed at the back due to overcommitting men forward? Why can we not keep 100% focused during a game and have habits of switching off? I don't even think we played horrifically going forward, but the defending, as per usual, was absolutely shambolic. There's no point scoring all these goals if you're gonna let them in at the other end. We honestly could not have had a worse start to our CL campaign.
Good analysis, and forget the last 10 years. This has happened like 4 times now in the last year alone, 3 times at home in one year! 3-3 Anderlect, 3-1 Monaco, and now this fiasco.
One team and two team league? Well for a start, Dortmund actually reached a CL final two years ago and have been brilliant this season and would probably spank us out of sight, in Spain, Athletico Madrid reached a CL final in 2014 and would also smash us and Sevilla would also probably have our number if we played them.
If you wanna know something really funny, I am flying into London this Friday, and will be going to the home game VS United.....**** me.
That's a lot of probables... But I can't prove or argue it. As too the 1 team and 2 team leagues, you know they are. Do you really want me to prove the number of title wins in both countries, or argue why they have a massive advantage in both their leagues? It's irrelevant for tonight anyway, but come on...
Depends how far back you want to go. Dortmund and Athletcio have reach CL finals and won their respective leagues in recent years and both have outperformed us and other English teams in the CL in recent years. Seville have put our English clubs who played in the Europa league to shame with their performances. Spain have FIVE teams in the CL for a reason, they are very good in Europe.
Let's just remind ourselves of Olympiakos's record in England before playing the "mighty" Arsenal tonight. P: 12 W: 0 D: 0 L: 12 GF: 3 GA: 37
Much as I agree with your post, I do think if you know our history, you do us a disservice there. Only pool and manure have anywhere near our history of trophies, and in the last 20 years, only man u. (20 years used as a near wenger reign). Credit where it is due. Pool - 25 years no league. Spuds - 55 years no league. Chelsea and an citeh went 50+ years no league win. So, fair play, slag wenger at the moment and in many ways rightly, but above all else, we are the arsenal. We do not go decades without a league win, let alone a cup or two.
