City isn't really the same situation, we were playing an actual rival who also had a chance to win the league, and playing at their ground, AND we needed to win by 2 goals at least. That to me, is more special.
Have been saying this for years. Qualifying for the Champions League every year means **** all if you have no chance of winning it and are in just to make up the numbers. Sure its good for the board to have that TV money pouring in, but fans want to see their teams getting to the latter stages of the tournament, they want Quarter and Semi final ties against Barca and Madrid. Chelsea haven't been great every year in the CL (like that limp dicked defence of the CL title we did in 2013), but most of the time we set out to get to the latter stages and have won it once and got to another final, and half a dozen semi finals in the last 10 years. To do this you need tactical nous, the ability to mould your team to play to its strengths, but also exploit the oppositions weaknesses (and a bit of luck too of course), Wenger just doesn't seem to have the ability to change anything. Take us again, we are in a ****ty position at the moment, but even still, against Newcastle at the weekend, Jose makes changes at half time and we go from 2-0 down to a 2-2 draw. In his first tenure with us Jose used to do that ALL the time, it gives you confidence that even if things aren't going your way, your manager can still pull something out the hat, SAF was the same at United. Do any of you really have that same confidence in Wenger? He seems far too stubborn and stuck in his ways and his tenure with your club needs to end. Been saying it for years now, with the set up Arsenal have, financially, the stadium, the fanbase, I fear the day you actually get a real manager, because you have the best set up in the league and now you have no financial restrains, and a settled team, and a settled manager (whilst Utd, Chelsea and City chop and change every couple seasons) you should be dominating this league, but you aren't and thats because, frankly, Wenger ****ing sucks.......
Tbf mate I'm not on the wum, I only replied due to the remark made about us and our 25 years without a title win, its not like we've won nothing of note since but yeah it is frustrating not to have won the new version of the title. Nos Da Boyo!
Was there that night, obviously sick about the outcome but stayed to applaud the Arsenal on their lap of honour, was thankful to their club for the help and respect after Hillsborough.
Magic Man mentioned Anfield 89 and I said it will never be repeated.I thought it was obvious I was talking from an Arsenal perspective
Often thought that too, but can't take away Arsenal's achievement. And Michael ended up helping us win the FA Cup and was forgiven for the heartbreak he caused the night he won the league for the Arsenal.
Last nights game got me thinking... When we look back at some of our best wins over the last few Seasons these are usually games where Wenger has changed something tactically. Our win against Barca in 2011 or in fact if we go back further our whole run to the Champions League final in 2006 was based on a less open counter attacking game. If we use the Man City game Last Season as the example: We set up deep and played on the break. No high line! No possession based game.. Just quick passing and pace on the counter. Why when this clearly worked on several occasions are we still going in to big games like last night playing the same suicidal high line and trying to pass our opponents to death?? .. There are times when Wenger has shown tactical adaptability but he always returns to the same thing over and over again regardless.
