I think you are getting old . Most fans of every team think that their current team is the worst ever. Manchester United fans lament that their team is the worst ever, and they are clear at the top. Let me tell you that it will come as a shock when you, in later life, come to realize that there are players better than Bergkamp and Henry, if you ever do.

I used to laugh at my dad when he used to talk about Puscas and De Stefano being better than Cruyff and Beckenbaur from the era when I was a teenager. Memory tends to forget bad things and only remember the good, and no one keeps video of the games where Pires or Cruyff spent the whole game falling over.

 

It probably is one of their worst in the last 10-15 years. And the fact they're top shows the decline in the league.

 

Maybe. The problem with a competitive game is that you can't account for teams getting better at stopping you playing. There is no doubt that players today have less time and space to play the ball than players did 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago.

In a game like Golf, you can make a much better judgement on the historical ability of players, because players do not directly compete and influence each other's scores.

I think you can rightly say that the PL today is not as good compared to the other European leagues, as it used to be, but I think it is harder to say that the skill level is actually declining. I mean it is difficult to tell whether it is because European Leagues have got better faster than we have or whether we have actually declined.

 

I'd say the rest of the league has got better. There are no easy games these days and the fact that bottom team QPR beat Chelsea with all of their millions on their own turf, tells you that the gap has shrunk. It wasn't so long ago that we were hammering teams 6-0 and 7-0, and were out of sight by half time, but that's no longer the case, for us or Utd and Chelsea.
