You said: I'm saying that we'd didn't go out onto the pitch and not want it as much - of course we wanted to win, but QPR put in a much better performance than us on the day. For the record I think Walcott's words were poorly chosen, I do think we wanted it as much as QPR, but we lacked the required urgency to achieve that. It wasn't good enough and we need to put in a much better performance against City, but you are reading way too much into Walcott's words - Nobody has 'admitted' that the 'team lack character' Ramsey has come out and said that it's not fair to say that we didn't want to win: We've won 7 of our last 8 and we're 3rd. That in most people's books is cause for optimism going into the last few games of the season.
You are right - that was mind numbingly boring. Sunderland did us a favour by sending Spurs to sleep (as well as everyone watching) A loss tomorrow will still keep us close.
They went out on the pitch not wanting it as much as QPR .They didn't do it intentionally I am sure, it's just many of the players lack character. That's the difference. As for Ramsey - his words sound like he is embarrassed about his performances. Rightly so. In truth he should just keep himself to himself after his dreadful season. In terms of cause for optimism - well yes if you want to be optimistic that we will get a CL place that's perfectly reasonable. Personally, I am not, based on the fact we choke under pressure. Overall I am very disappointed in another poor season.
Well I think they did go out onto the pitch wanting it as much as QPR, but lacked the necessary urgency and determination to get the right result. But there we go, the bottom line is that nobody admitted that we have a lack of character in the team, that's your own opinion. All that matters now is that we put it right against City. They will be up for it as they need a win to be in with a shout of the title, nothing would give me more pleasure than seeing Nasri's final hope of a trophy this season ended by Arsenal.
We disagree - nothing unusual there. Wenger and Walcott admitted the team didn't want it as much as QPR - lack of character
Well despite your intricate reasoning for exactly when they didn't want to win as much (!), when I hear at a crucial time our players admitting they didn't want to win as much as QPR that is a direct admission of lack of character. It's been a common failing of the team for a while, so whilst infuriating that it is still a problem, I am not overly surprised.
They didn't admit that they didn't want to win as much as QPR. Walcott said that it seemed that QPR wanted it more, which was an observation of the performance, it wasn't good enough. But ask Walcott a direct question 'do you admit that you didn't want to win the game as much as QPR' and I think you'll find he would tell you that you are talking rubbish In fact Ramsey said the exact opposite . I can't really be bothered with and endless back and forth with you about it - If you think the players went into the game not wanting to win it then I think you are badly wrong and completely misjudge the players - and to say that they have admitted that they have a lack of character in the team is simply a total fabrication.
In some matches, a team can simply just want it more. QPR played at home and they had their fans right behind them. This team does not lack character. The way they have responded since the Sunderland game, shows you that.
No, as I said, they lack the character to raise their game when another team wants it more. I won't take any fluffy excuse for a player actually admitting the other team wanted it more. It's not acceptable.
We've gone on long runs of wins before and then collapsed at vital times. In fact we collapse regularly when we seem to have the initiative. The evidence of the last few seasons suggests we do in fact lack character and the latest admission would seem to support that.
No. The evidence in previous seasons suggest that we normally collapse when we start falling behind in the title race and then start having nothing to play. We are in the race for the four, so the team do have something to play for. The latest admission is that QPR just wanted it more in ONE game. But I would rather look at the previous SEVEN to judge the character of the team.
Why the previous 7? Why not the previous 100, or 50, or 300? You're wrong by the way, our collapses come just when we are right in contention. Regardless, both situations point to a lack of character. The team shouldn't collapse at all based on 1 or 2 results. Anyway - changing the subject - Chelsea are labouring at home to Wigan
Why not the whole season? We are fourth with a game less despite having one of the worst summer imaginable. This team has done well to be where they are. We won every game in March bar the QPR game. We have things to play for, our collapses come when there is a crucial turning point and then we find ourselves safe in the top four but failing behind in the title race. Then injuries mount up and the free-fall starts. Key differences this season. There has been no carling cup moment and most of our key players are fit. Also we are not safe in the top four and therefore we have to be on toes for the rest of the season.
OMG Chelsea just scored a goal which was 2-3 yards off side - clear as day. What a miss by the lino. Wow
Yes, whole season would be fine to measure - another poor season miles off the pace. I am not interested in the 'good season, considering...' arguments. The summer was our own making.
