We're on a decent run of form atm, and we seem to have found our shooting boots recently too. Lesta have been a shadow of the team they have been over the last few seasons and they look very much like the midtable team and the midtable berth that they are used to occupying. That said, they sill pose quite a threat going forward and we will need to sharpen up some of our defensive play, which was lacking at times against Watford. But if we put in a decent performance, then we should have enough to beat them, especially at home. Big incentive to put more points on the board, with Utd and the Spuds playing each other this weekend, and at least one of those sides dropping more points.
They've also got a European game in midweek against Rennes, albeit it is Conference League. Saying that, I wasn't sure if Rodgers was going to take it seriously. But I saw the teams he fielded in both legs of the last round and he went for a much stronger team than I expected. I think it's a competition he wants to win. So, assuming he fields a lot of first-team players, we'll have more rest over them for sure, which we hopefully use to our advantage.
I was browsing a Leicester City forum and it turns out the vast majority of them would rather sack off the Arsenal game and put everything into the Rennes game. They really want to win the Conference League it seems. And I think a lot of them have come to terms with the increasingly likely possibility that a midtable finish in the league beckons. Conference League is their best shot at a trophy and getting European football for the following year. Good luck to them, but I hope they suffer a difficult evening on Thursday!
Rodgers has said in his pre-match conference for Rennes that Vardy (who has been a constant thorn in our side over the years) is injured for a few weeks, that Fofana's comeback has been delayed as he has COVID and Ricardo Pereira is still out (doubtful for Arsenal). They still have some very dangerous players (i.e. Daka, Maddison, Barnes), but Vardy missing is a huge boost for our chances.
Good to see ESR on the bench today Even with our small squad, we've still got some decent option to change things if we need to
HT. 1-0. Should have had a penalty, and Partey hit the bar to deny him a 2nd goal, but since then, Leicester have grown into the game and we’ve not been able to sustain any pressure or attacks. Ramsdale made a wonder save from Barnes and White made a vital interception on Maddison to deny them scoring. Hasn’t been good enough since the 25th minute, though. This is our easiest fixture on paper this week. Need 3 points.
Lesta really fortunate not to be 2-0 down. We had Lesta exactly where we wanted them for half an hour and then let them back into the game. Want to see us chasing them down in the 2nd half, don’t allow them any time to get the ball out to the wings
2-0. Lacazette penalty. No idea how VAR took so long to give that. Partey’s header was going in, and it hits Soyuncu’s hand on the line. Blatant penalty. It should have been a red card too. No idea why he only got a yellow.
I’m happy we’re winning 2-0, but I don’t want this to gloss over how incompetent the officials are. Every single week there’s an incident like this.
FT. 2-0. Very measured and professional performance against a good team (who aren’t having a great season admittedly). Glad to get a clean sheet. We are playing good football and looking defensively solid. The balance we have at the moment is great from front to back. Let’s hope we carry it on . Huge game on Wednesday night against Liverpool. A result in that game would be massive!
We go into that game as massive underdogs with all the pressure on Liverpool to win it. If we can even get a point there it will be a massive upset. Great to see us back in the Top 4. Thought we handled that game very well. 2-0 flattered Lesta. They were lucky not to have two men sent off, concede another pen and were saved by the crossbar 4-0 wouldn't have been unrealistic
