Don't think it is a hindsight thing here tbh TT, i think most of us who watched the game are in agreement on this one. Gibbs stood off him for far too long and invited the shot. Granted it was an amazing finish, but he never should have had time to shoot, neither Monreal (or even Santos before him) would stand off in that situation. Whilst i agree there are times to stand off your opponent, that wasn't one of them.

It was a silly mistake from Gibbs. That doesn't all of a sudden mean he isn't agood player, or change the fact he is having a good season, just that he made a rather large error in that game. Hopefully Nacho gets some game time now, the competition for spots is good.

I don't agree, but that's OK, be a hell of a thing if we all agreed :). I know most people want to allocate blame, but sometimes a defender makes the right moves and gets beaten anyway. 9/10 times that was the correct play, and wait for a second defender to come in. You can fault Gibbs for getting the angle slightly wrong (maybe), and he might have got a shade closer (maybe), but in that situation he doesn't need to be trying to win the ball. The attacker is waiting for him to do that and he only has to get his foot in front of the ball to draw the foul.

I'm not sure it was a case of Gibbs needing to get his foot in more than simply sticking a bit tighter to him or showing him to the byline. It was because Gibbs stood off that he was able to get his shot away.

I agree though that one mistake doesn't make him a bad player, but it was a fairly costly mistake granted.

Completely agree PISKIE, it's not neccessarily that everyone is expecting him to make the tackle, but to get tighter or see him outside was the correct course of action. It was a time to hassle the opponent as opposed to standing off and allowing him all the time and space he needed to shoot whilst inside the area.

It definately wasn't the case of him doing the right thing and being unlucky, he made a mistake and we paid for it. He's still quality though, just defensively Monreal i think is more tidy.
