I had a look at the table and realised that we can win it, but just as well we can finish 5th. It is all a bit too tense.
trying to win at home and therefore go back to the top is sooooooo reckless . Pity City didnt have that attitude against us last week when they were at home aint it ? Recklessly scoring 6 against us , such stupidity when they could have settled for a strategic point like us. playing for a point against a weak Chelsea is spineless. Not reckless. Hey lets play for a point every week . Safety first wins nothing. Who dares wins , who bottles it , deserves bugger all .
i think you are going overboard here, how many time have you watched us in the last 3-4 years pile forward again Chelsea/man u ect and lose a game like that by getting hit on the counter? a point is not ideal, but its not worst case scenario, especially considering we played pretty poorly.
Especially given that we would have dropped two places and been overtaken by Chelsea if we'd have lost. Hence my comment about being glad we didn't lose. It's a fairly well accepted notion that if you can't win a game like this against your rivals, then you have to make sure that whatever you do you don't lose. That's not the same as 'excusing' or 'playing down' the performance, it's about being realistic and pragmatic.
Precisely my thoughts, the key thing is not to lose, after we drew with Everton, lost in Naples and smashed by city, the last thing you want is lose against one of your rivals. Most people on here seem to think Chelsea were there for the taking, Maureen set his team for a smash and grab.... Everyone calling for a sub, who is to say we would not have lost had we made changes.... I do not believe victory against Chelsea would cement our championship credentials.... What would help is beating teams like Newcastle, West Ham, Sunderland, Swansea.... There are more points to be made against teams like these... I am pleased Wenger is finally learning and not going gung ho against teams like Chelsea.... If we had been playing against teams like Newcastle at home and he refused to make a change to try and win the game, I would have been upset...
You're now talking this up as some sort of tactical masterclass by Wenger. You can't polish a turd. I think that's what GunnerB's point was... I think.
I said earlier, I think we were pretty awful in an attacking sense. No-one denies that. In fact we've been horrible against Manure, City and Chelski this season which is something that needs to change obvs. I was just making the point, that earlier in the season we had the chance to get something from Dortmund at home and ended up losing because we tried too hard to win it. I think the mindset last night was one of "cautious attack" rather than being gung ho and throwing caution to the winds.
A bit confused that with so many matches coming up Wenger made no substitutions. I guess he may have thought that making a change may affect the balance of the team, or that bringing on a defender would make Mourinho bring on an attacker, and annoy the fans. But it now leaves extra tired players for the upcoming games. In particular Giroud, who has played a LOT, and runs so much for the team, with no back-up as Wenger still seemingly doesn't trust Bendtner. No wonder they're struggling a little at present.
It's another one of these posts which has a cute turn of phrase but no real grounds to support the point. OK, I get it "polish a turd" good phrase, now explain why you think justifying Wenger not making substitutions is polishing anything. Have you ever played football in conditions like that? Do you have any inkling how long it takes a player to get into a game like that? The Chelsea substitutions hardly did. You need to learn something about the game and have some credibility before you can simply state an opinion and have anyone take it seriously. It happens way too much on here. Nothing wrong in saying that you would have liked Wenger to take a few more risks and throw on some more attacking players, but calling our team turds is just once again being a **** fan.
The chelsea substitutions. Oscar, good in possession and good at long range shots. David Luiz, added defensive cover, and good at long range shots / free kicks / and in the air. ... in a wet pitch that sees more success in direct play and long range efforts compared to tippy tappy stuff. (I mean it was obvious both teams passes were either coming short or long, pitch was unpredictable, and we kept trying to circle it around their area) The last sub was toward the end to definitely close shop.
If only you'd read your own advice in the second paragraph and take note of it. And nowhere do I call our team 'turds'. All you've done is spent the time to write three paragraph to make it obvious that you haven't read what I've written.
I am beginning to think some guys on here got their egos bruised......Otherwise why the overreaction? They have probably been giving it the large un to work colleagues and the like how we were going to polish off Chelsea etc etc.. We drew nil nil against Chelsea, they needed to win to overhaul us. Games like these are usually cagey, we seem to be suffering a bit of a dip.... We are still joint top, lets get behind the lads and get back to winning ways at the Hammers. Plenty of points and football still to be won and played.
look if before the first game of the season you had said to me at xmas no other team in the premier league would have more points that us, all of us would have taken that.
Exactly. After the end of every season, all you want from your team is for them to improve, and we have done that. Most of us seem to agree on what we need to do to improve even further (a new CF) and hopefully we can get that player in the next transfer window.
I think that if this is your view then it is you that should read what you have written. I am even more convinced now that you pulled the "Polish a turd" phrase out and used it without thinking. If you are going to use a metaphor for our team, or our team's performance, then you ARE saying that the performance, or the team was like a turd. I was attempting a small joke by saying that you were a s h i t fan, due to the turd reference, but I suppose you missed that, perhaps because the word was *ed out. In any case, it matters little what I actually write, inevitably I get a reply along the lines of - you are stupid and I am right. The real problem is always going to be that after every performance, you guys are going to come on here and say that the team I have supported all my life are crap, played like crap, the manager is crap, and that they will win crap all. I'm going to take exception. If you have a problem with that, tough ****.
