We tried to sign Suarez and we signed Ozil, other than that we got rid of a load of deadwood. I don't think we should have been in the business of signing players simply to make up the numbers for minor comps like this. Quality only please
I still feel confident that our first team is competitive and one of the best in the league. The reason why we are not considered title challengers is our lack of strength in depth. The return of Walcott and Podolski should lessen this problem but I think we need some top class attacking additions to seriously kick on and become one of the big boys again. Could be wrong though. Many Champions have had shocking form in the cups...
So that is it. Our squad depth issues only have to do with a striker. We are absolutely stocked on quality injury-free wingers, defensive midfielders and full-backs.
Arshavin or Miyaichi , i guess Miyaichi costs less so we keep him , the fact that he is like a chocolate fireguard is by the by
I normally defended Arshavin. I may have been mean about Gerv, but that was largely after that Bradford game. And stop trying to use it as an excuse.
I'm not saying we got all our business done this summer, far from it. I just don't think we should have been buying players simply to make up the numbers, we need signings on the same level as Ozil, not restocking the deadwood with more deadwood. You can shove your where the sun don't shine
yeah but the trick is to replace it with some LIVE wood , so you dont have to play third fiddle players . Calling back Bendtner is an embarrassment .
Even our first team is very one-dimensional on the wings though. We are having to play central players wide, which may work for some sides, but we need to have a plan B for the times it doesn't. Walcott's contribution will still be limited against organized defenses, and Podolski si more a impact-sub material for me. We are very short on wide forwards compared to the other top sides.
There's a difference between deadwood and squad depth. Chamakh = Deadwood Djourou = Depth Arshavin = Depth Squillaci = Deadwood Gervinho = Depth
I'm not using is as an excuse. You were one of those who were vocal about Gerv being ****e and now you're using it as an excuse to say he could have done a job for us. Can't have it both ways Kyle
anyone have the stats on our shots on target ? I could do with a laugh . another tactical masterclass. What did they show tonite Arsene ? was it "great maturity " or " a little bit naive " ?:
And i was arguing that we should have bought only "numbers"? I have already covered what a generally **** transfer window it was (in that thread) saved partially only by a move that was very lucky and not down to our competence. Chelsea and Spurs used those 3 months quite well to get decent signings that aren't just 'numbers' that have contributed to their quality in depth.
