I doubt you have any interest in being fair, but to be fair, if you take 5 potential starters out of any team's squad, in addition to an already fairly deep injury list, they are going to have a problem.

If you look at the team I posted, even with Vermaelen, and Monreal injured we have a decent bench. It is unfortunate that both these players are on the LB depth chart, but Bellerin is a very decent young player to come in. I still agree with you that we need more players but for a game or two, this is not the massive disaster, or display of incompetence that you are making out.

    Chez/Flappy
    Jenkinson Mert Kos Gibbs
    Ramsey Jack
    Rosicky
    Theo Pod/Giroud Oxo

Subs: Chez/Flappy, Frimpong, Santi, Pod/Giroud, Bellerin/Sagna, Young CB (Ansah?), Gnabry

Not the strongest bench, some additions must be made before the window ends and I'm sure they will but we can still beat Villa with relative ease

So Arteta is now injured and is expected to be out for a month or so. We had this coming to us, so we can't complain too much. This is what happens when you take such a pathetic and weak approach to a transfer window. Well done Wenger and co. Bravo you bunch of utter tits.

Arsenal still has a strong team for Saturday. I think Wenger is trying to sign players but it is not easy to get the players he needs. It is still a win on Saturday!

This is one of the statements that piss me off. Lack of transfers=players getting injures? Ok mate whatever.

Well SJW is right, we had it coming to us, failure to invest leads to insufficient cover.

I think it is because injuries always happen and if you are not prepared then the injuries affect more. I think that was what is meant. But I think the team is still strong.

That's why you have to build a proper squad. Every team gets injuries, but for a club like Arsenal, with it's current wealth, to be this bare going into a new season is criminal.

And people can say that we still have time to invest, but why leave it this late and take such risks? Wenger should stop gambling like this, because he ****ing awful at it.

    :p

I wasn't taking it as aimed at me, but I am a biter (not of pillows). I just think we have enough **** thrown at us by jealous outsiders that we should try to avoid flinging it at our own all the time.

The exceptions to the above are those of welshie origin ofc. It's always open season on those bastards <grr>

I actually don't agree with you here, and that is unusual. I think the opposite. I think Wenger is being very brave, foolhardy even.

He could have signed solid but average players into the team, I will not debate that. Let's say like Capoue and Paulinho. These guys are solid, but they might not be better than Ramsey and Arteta, and they definitely aren't a LOT better than them. Once he signs these two, He no longer has room in the squad for any more midfielders, so he cant sign anyone better.

    But he hasn't done that.

He is playing this game of chicken out to the end. So whatever you think about his chances of success, or the position it leaves us in short-term, or even how it works out in the long run, that is clearly what he thinks is right.

I don't know if it is a mistake. I'll be honest. If we end up with 3 genuinely good world-class players by the end of the window, he will probably have been right. If we get left with average players, then he will probably have been wrong, and should have just signed them early and settled. My feeling is that it will end up being somewhere in between. We will get 1 or 2 excellent signings and 1 or 2 not so good.

So, I don't think it is pathetic and weak, I think it is very strong, but not necessarily smart, unless it works out.

That is the life of a manager though isn't it, genius one day, idiot the next?

So Wenger is brave for leaving the squad like this? Are you a modern art critic? You sound like someone who could look at a pile of dog**** and call it a masterpiece.

I think you are assuming that "Brave" is some kind of complement.

As the saying goes, there is a fine line between bravery and stupidity... He is taking a risk, and standing by it.

You are the fan that is being weak and want to cave in and settle, not him. He may be stupid, but at this point he is "Brave" for sticking it out, hence the "Foolhardy comment.

You know, you negative Nellies keep accusing us of supporting Wenger no matter what, but the converse is true as well, you will leap on anything that you even suspect is complementary. Often not bothering to read it properly first.

Oh and why do you sister-****ing ****s keep adding a personal insult to every post.?

Pathetic that people "liked" you basically insulting me, without even addressing my reasons for posting as I did.

    FOOTBALL - ARSENAL TEAM NEWS

Arsenal will be without midfielder Mikel Arteta (thigh) for the opening game of the new Premier League season against Aston Villa on Saturday, but England international Theo Walcott (knee) will be available.

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey missed the midweek international against the Republic of Ireland because of an ankle injury, but is expected to feature.

Full-back Nacho Monreal (back) is to resume full training next week, while captain Thomas Vermaelen (back) continues his rehabilitation along with midfielder Abou Diaby (knee).

Not too many absentees and we should have enough to deal with Villa. As for Diaby, was it a slightly more breezier day than usual?
