It takes a true pessimist to see the down side of being an optimist On the other hand an optimist can see the advantages of pessimism, but that just makes them optimistic about it so I think that must mean that it will always remain ... just ... out ... of ... their grasp
I reckon we'll surprise everyone and spring a 1-0 win. But only if we play Maya. 2nd minute goal then 88 minutes of agony would be fun. Vin
We'll either get a result of get battered imo. So vital to keep it tight early on, if they score in the first 15-20 minutes it could get painful but if we start well we could well grow into the game.
Caeser's courage afforded him immortality, of a sort. We could do with some of his swaggering bravado for the rest of this season. And if we're going to die, let's die on our feet.
Are they doing the Tiger Feet dance ??? That should baffle the Arse !!! (A dance I can do no matter how drunk I am)
Beating Arsenal is one of the great pleasures about following football. There are few things quite as agreeable as listening to Arsene Wenger reel off a load of excuses as to why his team lost. I think there are teams such as Liverpool and man Utd who I dislike and am glad to see us defeat yet none really have the added post-match bonus of Wenger complaining nor the multitude of their fans stating that Arsenal are too good to lose to someone like Southampton - forgetting that they have been happy in the past to buy all our players!! I suppose that the evolution of the Premiership has seen the phenomena of the "plastic" supporter emerge and perhaps Arsenal are the worst culprit. As a child, Arsenal was a team that Terry O'Neill stuffed full of Irish and Scottish players. That was back in the time of Liam Brady, David O'Leary, Sammy Nelson, Willie Young, etc. I quite admired them then. These days I associate them with France, I spend my holidays in that country and have come to see Arsenal as the club that the French appear to follow more avidly than their own teams. It just seems very artificial. Fingers crossed for a comprehensive win and a compelling performance.
Let's tell Arsenal....no need to play the game. Give them a chance to rest after their European adventure. No downside that I can see.
An Arsenal supporting colleague told me yesterday he was off to put a bet on Saints to win. I told him he was mad, of course, but he seemed convinced that a gooner failure followed by a Wenger meltdown was on the cards.
