Redknapp giving his biased RS view as usual. He'll be jumping like a clown when Palace get thrashed tomorrow. #jinx
I cannot believe united are 4th after such a poor start to the season. They have only played to only 50% of their potential.
Graeme Souness's post match analysis could have been scripted by one of the more frustrated Dipper members of this forum.
Now we have Souness trying to find excuses and claiming United were lucky. The ground out a result, its was hardly a classic, but we won. . I suppose it's against his religion to give us any credit, but an ugly win is far better than a pretty defeat
Sourness and Redkrap seemed to be very upset by the United win. Did they put money on an arsenal win or just usual RS envy??
I disagree here Custard. It wasn't our defence that scared me today, it was our lack of an outlet through midfield when we had the ball. There was no organisation from midfield to get the ball forward. Fellaini instead of Mata, Rooney in midfield and ADM upfront...WTF?? Will that change with an improved back 4???? No. It will change when LVG stops playing with 10, drops Fellaini and understands the opposition and plays his best starting 11.
Totally disagree with you. LVG played a blinder today. Yes he had lots of luck today but he had to stop their midfield playing and that meant playing Fellaini and Rooney in midfield. Today he showed why he is better tactically than Moyes. That is why Moyes would never have won today because he would have played mata in midfield and Rooney in attack and arsenal would have let rip even more. He needed to get a point today and he got 3.
Well pointed out Christian. As well as the injury problems LVG chose a team to beat Arsenal, whereas Moyes would have picked one not to lose, but would have lost anyway through his lack of ambition. Fellaini was dreadful last year, but so was everyone else. Give the guy some credit for taking on the task directed by LVG, sticking to it, and helping us get the three points.
Fellaini did a job. He's always going to be a plodder but this Arsenal just don't do physical so he had to play really, especially as the defence needed help. He also contributed in attack as he fouled Gibbs to set up the first goal and played Di Maria in to help set up the second goal. Carrick was excellent although I doubt a single non United fan would have recognised that. I've said it several times before but it's worth saying again, I'd be intrigued to see how other teams would have coped with our defensive injuries. It's almost farcical and as a result it was no surprise that Shaw turned his ankle after 7 minutes. No doubt that will be another injury blamed on LVG's training methods. It was purgatory to watch but a great result and we're well placed to kick on given some luck on the injury front.
THIS is the total misdirection. We play Fellaini and set up to invite pressure. We handed an average arsenal side the upper hand, and then when Fellaini runs around and "grafts" we say he grafted and did what he did best. The point gets missed that we didn't need a grafter. Where was the threat from this Arsenal side? We gave them far too much respect. The ONLY reason they dominated that match was because we couldn't hold on to possession and we had no outlet in midfield...a major factor for that was Fellaini. And it was relentless. Had we set up with a proper back 4 with Carrick at the base of the diamond, with Valencia also tracking back against Sanchez we wouldn't have needed Fellaini at all. What that offered was dominance in midfield through Carrick, Mata, ADM and then an outlet for them through to Rooney and RVP. I can't bullshit that LVG got it right, we got lucky plain and simple. Fellaini instead of Mata... I must be living in some surreal parallel universe
Horses for courses..?? our defence was sooo vulnerable that Fellaini could provide defensively more than mata.
