Ex PSG boss. Not a bad signing. Used to having a big fat cheque book so could mean a change of policy.
Pretty underwhelming. On the bright side I backed Arteta at around 16s on Betfair and laid it off today for the best part of £200 profit.
5 trophies in 2 seasons at PSG. 3 Europey trophies with Sevilla. Can't be all that bad. Had problems with the dressing room at PSG that hindered them.
I’m maybe a bit biased. I lived near Valencia for a year when he was there and they were unspectacular at the time and I was more of a Villarreal fan who were nearby too. Honestly think I’d have won as much at PSG and they’ve been mediocre in Europe.
Its a safe choice. I don't think we'll be winning the league any time soon though. Hard to judge really. On the one hand Arteta had the potential to be better (or a lot worse), but this is a slightly less ambitious appointment (but there is less chance it could go wrong).
Would've much preferred Arteta if I were an Arsenal fan, Emery isn't exactly inspiring. Probably gets them 6th and a good Europa League run again
From my (hazy) memory of him at Valencia didn't they have huge discipline problems there as well? Players just walked all over him? I might be remembering wrong
Don't count half the fake trophies at psg all them cups. He won the league once and failed the other time and had no cls. Didn't do too well in my book. Did decent in the cups with Seville but didn't really make a dent in the league though which is where I think he will fail
Decent appointment for them, smarter option than an unproven Arteta but I think they could've got better. Done great with Sevilla and good with Valencia, while he inevitably won stuff with PSG but that was without his troubles, in his first season he couldn't beat Jardim's Monaco to the title and then needed a £200m Neymar and eventual £130m or so Mbappe (plus an absolute ransacking of Monaco) to eventually take the top spot. In comparison, rumours are he'll only have £50m at Arsenal and a squad with so many players not good enough for their aspirations.
In that case you can make comparisons to Wenger when he was appointed. Had also won trophies in the French league. Can't judge until you see him play in the Premier League.
I mean, if he had won some cups in the french league without it being PSG i would have thought it was a good achievement. But winning cups with that PSG team i'm not sure i would regard as an overachievement. Just par for the course. He's a better appointment than Arteta though, at least he has some pedigree behind him. Even though that PSG squad is split (maybe not so much before neymar), i'm going to have to give him a black mark for letting that monaco side pip him
