Well £92m or 180k. Detach from the actual amounts and think about it in footballing terms. It's not a hard choice. The FA Cup is great once you are established, but it's extra games in a 46 game season and we don't need the risk of injury or fatigue going into the final stretch of the season. It's easy to enjoy the occasion, but if it ****ed up our promotion bid it wouldn't be worth it at all.
Im with Stirling. Promotion more than the instant and fleeting gratification of an FA Cup win. Sure, it'd be nice, eventually, but I've never been one to worry about the trophy cabinet in my club. Although going up as Champions would mean a helluva lot to me.
If you are/were a betting man. Would you put everything you own on us winning promotion or winning the FA Cup?
I wouldn't think the Cup would affect our chances of promotion considering we just won in the league following a cup tie, and have won back to back Saturday Tuesday matches in the league. This notion that we can't get promoted and do well in the cup is nonsense.
I don't think anyone has said they wouldnt take both. The discussion is, given a choice, which would you prefer?
But only when you're winning. When you're losing, any league is ****e. Winning means winning the league hopefully, which results in promotion. Unless you mean you'd prefer we won enough to end up 7th every season which would be arsebags. Why would anyone want to see the club tread water in mid table, championship mediocrity?
I choose to open the box and take the money Btw the 180k is just for the replay not for winning the FA cup
Sorry to be cold-hearted, but going up is too important to the club's future not to prioritise it. Even if we then came straight back down, we should still (in theory) be in a better position, whereas if we don't go up we're a bit up **** creek (and probably stuck with the name-changing incompetents for a while longer).
Its more awkward for the Watford fans who don't know if they'll be playing in Hull or London until a few days before.
We've resigned most important players now, only Davies is one I'd keep who's out of contract. If we don't go up but had Europe to play in I think we'd keep Dawson etc for another year, it wouldn't be disaster.
Big fish until we don't go up & end up being asset stripped & go down & down ending up battling Leeds for the last relegation spot! They wouldn't stay for any longer if we don't go up, regardless of Europe or whatever bits could be offered!
Also MK Dons not knowing if they have a game on the 12th or not. Brentford fans that have already bought tickets/ arranged travel for the 8th. 5 sets of fans all ****ed about.
